60 seconds with Logan Kensing

Staff writer Joe Capozzi spoke with the Marlins pitcher, who works as a hunting guide in Texas during the off-season.

What's your take on the Dick Cheney incident?

When you're hunting, there's a gun involved, there are moving objects. Everything is not always clear about what you're going to shoot. You probably need to be more careful.

Did Cheney violate any hunters' protocol?

They said a low-flying bird came up, went right to left. You're only supposed to shoot to 11 o'clock (position), then let the next guy get it. He probably swung the barrel too far and that's what got the poor guy shot. But without being there, nobody really knows. I've been peppered by a shotgun before.

By Dick Cheney?

No! When I was 12 I had to go to the doctor's office to pull BBs out. When we were little, we used to have BB-gun fights. Just wearing goggles and shooting each other.

Isn't that dangerous?

It's part of growing up in the woods.

How often do you hunt?

I'm a guide at the Cedar Springs ranch near Rock Springs, Texas, so that's all I do in the off-season. People come in and pay money, and we take them out and let them shoot something.

What pays better, playing baseball or being a hunting guide?

Playing baseball pays a lot better.

What's tougher to do, strike out Derrek Lee or shoot a wild hog?

Strike out Derrek Lee, for sure, guaranteed, any day! It's easier to go shoot stuff.

Hunting is a lot like pitching, right? If your pitch is out of the zone, you hit somebody . . .

And if your scope's off, you can pepper someone. You've just got to adjust your sights. Unless you meant to do it.

Ever mean to shoot someone?

No. I've peppered people before, but they'll be way over there. You shoot over their head and it falls down on them. Nothing that's going to hurt.

Ever been hunting at Josh Beckett's ranch?

No. The jerk doesn't always call people back.

Is there a laugh Capozzi didn't mention or is Kensing being serious? :mischief2
