(March 28, 2006)?President Bush announced Tuesday morning that Andy Card has resigned as White House chief of staff.

Budget Director Josh Bolten will replace him, Mr. Bush announced.

The change comes as Mr. Bush is facing increasing criticism because of the drawn-out war in Iraq.

Some Republicans have suggested that he bring in new aides with fresh ideas and new energy.

Card plans to stay on the job until April 14, when Bolten will take over.

Mr. Bush says he's "honored" to have served with Card. He also says he has "great confidence" in Bolten.

Bolten is widely experienced in Washington, both on Capitol Hill and at the White House.

He served as deputy chief of staff before becoming director of the Office of Management and Budget in 2003.
