Rays: Another prospect causes quite a stir

Featured Replies

In addition to Delmon Young's bat-throwing incident, Triple-A Durham had another issue.

Outfielder Elijah Dukes, who has a history of anger management issues, was involved in a loud tirade with coaches after Thursday's game, forcing the clubhouse to be closed to the media.

The Rays dispatched farm director Mitch Lukevics, but executive vice president Andrew Friedman said, "It's a personal matter being handled in-house."

DUKES RETURNS HOME: Former Hillsborough High star Elijah Dukes, who increased his stature with a strong spring camp with the Rays, has returned to Tampa to take care of some personal issues.

Dukes had a confrontation in the clubhouse with members of Triple-A Durham's coaching staff following Thursday's game at Pawtucket. Dukes, who has a history of anger-related problems, returned home late Friday, missing the Bulls' past two games. Dukes remains on the active roster but isn't expected to return to the club until Thursday, when the Bulls open a homestand against Indianapolis.

The Bulls are without two of their most talented players - Dukes and OF Delmon Young. Young remains suspended indefinitely for throwing a bat at an umpire Wednesday. The International League is expected to announce the length of Young's suspension early this week.
