May 20, 200620 yr Clearly we need to find some kind of reliable option in our bullpen to finish a game. Right now we're on the verge of having the bullpen coach hand out blindfolds and cigarettes once we get to the eigth inning. Lost in todays loss was an excellent outing from Logan Kensing. We're clearly trying to establish him as the 8th inning guy, and I think with time he could get the job done there. The point of this topic though, and its as much a poll as it is a topic, is whether Josh Johnson might be our closer after all. I realise he is looking as solid a starter as we have (untill Dontrelle gets totally settled), and should develop as a starter and be a good one. Thing is, in terms of pitcher type, and that kind of uncomplicated repetitive approach most good closers have (with the odd exception), I don't think there is another option that fits as well as Josh. We do though have a lot of pitchers in the queue for rotation spots. Yea or nay?
May 20, 200620 yr While JJ may have the right makeup to be a good closer, I think his future is as a starting pitcher. He has proved that in the minors and this season. Let the man continue to develop as a starter. Despite our bullpen, I think he can put up double digit wins for us this season.
May 20, 200620 yr Author Yep its certainly true that staying as a starter would probably be the best aid to his development as a pitcher. This is admittedly a somewhat knee jerk idea:)
May 20, 200620 yr sanchez could be a nice closer past midseason. If he continues to develope and go into the rotation next year like papelborn is doing.
