Sanchez/Septimo Update

Featured Replies

GREENSBORO -- They say baseball is a kids' game, but that's not as simple as it can get. At its most fundamental and most frustrating, baseball can become a toddlers' game. Just ask Gaby Sanchez and Agustin Septimo.

Actually, you could ask Sanchez now. Soon, Septimo might join him in hitting a ball off a tee, the first stage of play for youngsters and rehabilitating professionals.

The two Grasshoppers infielders suffered fractures in or near the hand in consecutive weeks of late May and early June, taking their team's first-half title hopes with them to the disabled list. The Florida Marlins never promised when or where the two would return -- both were seemingly in line for a promotion when they got hurt -- and the caution was wise.

As the season passes the two-thirds mark, Sanchez is taking initial swings at the Marlins' minor-league complex in Jupiter, Fla., and might be ready to begin a rehab stint in the Gulf Coast League in two weeks, said Brian Chattin, the Marlins' director of player development. Sanchez's effectiveness there will determine whether he joins another team in the chain or returns to Greensboro, where he hit 14 home runs and amassed 40 RBIs in 55 games before breaking a finger on a head-first, game-winning slide June 5.

Things aren't as clear for Septimo, who hasn't hit since May 29.

"He's close, but we don't have a timeline yet," Chattin said Wednesday while watching the Hoppers play Delmarva.

Well according to the box score, Gaby DH'd for our GCL team tonight, went hitless but had a couple of walks.

I also noticed that Allen Baxter (still on the Marlins 40 man roster) made an appearance. pitching one inning with 2 strikeouts and an unearned run

I read the list on the ste but wasnt Baxter on the 40 man in SpringTraining. He hasnt pitched all year and was put on the DL.I thought a player can not be taken off the 40 man roster while injured.
