  1. I was looking through minor league rosters and didn't see Restko in our system, any news ????? Restko was traded in the offseason. I believe to the Rangers
  2. How about the more exciting news is that he's pitching Saturday. I'm assuming it's on the B fields...? Allison isnt even on the Gulf Coast League roster yet , so he didnt pitch in the game, he threw a bullpen session for a few minutes, and then ran some poles on an adjacent field. GCL Marlins lost 5-4 in 10 innings
  3. to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be determined!!! read it in the minor league column in the PalmBeach Post
  4. butchy replied to Admin's topic in Sports
Which of our farm teams is he with? I cant find him on any roster or find any information about him anywhere. Torre is working out with the extended spring training team in preparation for the short season Jamestown team which begins after the draft

if anyone wants to listen Chris Volstad is pitching for Jupiter . Losing 2-1 in the 4th
  6. Hey Ramp, I was actually just reading your website, and was wondering what's up with Kyle Winters and Thomas Hickman? Can't seem to find any stats on them? Kyle Winters is in extended ST not sure about Hickman, I'll ask around Kyle Winters was rehabbing a hamstring injury with the extended team. He is scheduled to pitch for Greensboro on Friday. I did see Thomas Hickman with the extended team but I dont know if he is injured or just waiting for Jamestown to start.
  7. to pitch in Nolascos place tomorrow (sore shoulder) - havent seenit in print yet - Extremely reliable sources confirmed this.
  8. just saw Sink's numbers... that staff in Jupiter is awesome, and in a pitcher's league too... crazy was at the game and saw Mr.Sinkbeil - he was outstanding- moved the ball around well - topped off at 94 and was had a good slider. Only had 64 pitches thru 6 innings - but came out in order to give others work Team still isnt hitting (just like last year) - I think they r going to win and lose alot of 2-0 type games Tonite- Aaron Thompson and Monday - Ryan Tucker Still waiting to make his 2007 relief debut, Jacob Marceaux

Like asu79 mentioned, I'd love to see a roster. Rosters for Albuerquerque, Greensboro and Carolina are up and on MILB.COM. For some reason the Jupiter roster is not.

Weird.... would have thought McCann would be up in Carolina, even after that kind of year same goes for Psomas Psomas is in carolina , now playing first base. I guess they think that Psomas has the better bat of the 2. Lee Mitchell returns for his second year inCarolina as the 3B

noticed him on the Jupiter hammerhead roster again. Boy , has his stock fallen. Grant Psomas has supplanted him in AA as their first baseman and in Jupiter he will mostly play DH as Gaby Sanchez plays 1B there. I sawhim play in over 70 games last year and he is a very "timid" player who can hit a fastball (with power) and not much else. He is a below average first baseman (in my opinion) .
  12. was told this morning...
  13. Jason Stokes-1B-Athletics Mar. 30 - 6:47 pm et Athletics acquired first baseman Jason Stokes from the Marlins for catcher John Baker. An exchange of former prospects no longer on 40-man rosters. Stokes, 25, was once one of the top power prospects in baseball, but he's battled wrist problems and other injuries the last few years. The power may still be there now, but since he's always had trouble with breaking balls, all of the lost time is likely to cost him his chance of a career. That said, he does have more upside than Baker. He'll probably DH at Triple-A Sacramento. John Baker-C-Marlins Mar. 30 - 6:44 pm et Marlins acquired catcher John Baker from the Athletics for first baseman Jason Stokes. Baker was Marlins property for a few weeks in Dec. 2005, getting claimed off waivers from the A's. However, the A's got him back when the Marlins tried to get him through waivers and he hit .273/.361/.386 for Triple-A Sacramento last season. The 26-year-old is strictly insurance for Florida
  14. to the Oakland A's for a AAA catcher ( I think his name was Baker) - I havent seen it in print yet but I did hear it from a reliable source while at Roger Dean today.
  15. Dontrelle Willis will throw a Minor League game on Wednesday rather than face the Nationals, the team he will face on Opening Day. Willis' pitch count will be scaled back to about 70 in his final spring start. ~ http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=fla Anyone have any idea? A minor leaguer? From what I heard at minor league camp , Aaron Thompson will be making the Wed. start

  17. 12/14/2006 10:29 PM ET Marlins announce Minor League staffs Many familiar faces from recent seasons are returning By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com MIAMI -- For a franchise with modest financial resources like the Marlins, Minor League development takes on added importance. The Marlins on Thursday announced their Minor League staffs, and many of the familiar faces of the past few seasons are returning. The organizational coordinators are: John Pierson (field), Wayne Rosenthal (pitching), John Mallee (hitting), Ed Romero (infield), Tarrik Brock (outfield and baserunnig), Tim Cossins (catching), Gene Basham (rehab and training), and Mark West (strength and conditioning). One notable switch is that Luis Dorante, who managed Double-A Carolina in 2006, again will be managing Class A Advanced Jupiter. In 2005, Dorante was the Marlins bullpen coach. He previously managed Jupiter from 2002-04 and made the playoffs twice. Reid Cornelius will be Jupiter's pitching coach and Josue Espada will be the hitting coach, while Josh Seligman is the trainer. The Hammerheads of the Florida State League will be heavily monitored by the Marlins front office because a number of their strong pitching prospects are expected to open the season in Jupiter. Chris Volstad, Aaron Thompson, Ryan Tucker and Sean West were either first-round picks or first-round sandwich picks in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. They each were standouts in low Class A Greensboro in 2006. According to some league and team evaluators, these four have a chance to be as good or better than the four rookies who won 10 or more games for the Marlins this past season: Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez and Ricky Nolasco. Brandon Hyde replaces Dorante as the Double-A Carolina manager. Scott Mitchell is the pitching coach, while Paul Sanagorski will handle the hitting and Ben Heimos is the trainer. Dean Treanor returns as the manager of Triple-A Albuquerque. The Isotopes' on-field staff will be Richard Gale (pitching), Steven Phillips (hitting) and Steven Miller (trainer). Edwin Rodriguez will manage the Greensboro Grasshoppers with pitching coach John Duffy, hitting coach Anthony Iapoce and trainer James Stone. The short-season Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League will be managed by Darin Everson. The rest of the staff features Charlie Corbell Jr. (pitching), Johnny Rodriguez (hitting) and Cesar Roman (trainer). Florida's Gulf Coast League affiliate will feature Cossins as manager. Cossins will handle managing the GCL Marlins along with serving as the organizations catching coordinator. Gary Buckels will coach the pitchers. Jorge Hernandez will oversee the hitters, and Julio Hernandez is the trainer
  18. just in case anyone was curious....... Sports Saturday, December 16, 2006 New court date set for former Hopper Former Grasshoppers pitcher Jeff Allison now is scheduled to appear in Guilford County's drug court Dec. 28, the clerk's office said Friday. A hearing originally scheduled for Thursday was postponed. Allison, 22, faces one felony count of heroin possession, two felony counts of possessing a stolen motor vehicle and three misdemeanors in connection with arrests on consecutive days in October -- one in Greensboro, the other in High Point. The charges carry a possible maximum sentence of four years in prison, but attorneys have been discussing the option of transferring the matters to drug court, an alternative sentencing program in which defendants avoid jail time and are cleared of charges if they successfully complete a rehabilitation program. Allison, the 16th player taken in the 2003 draft, is a right-hander from Peabody, Mass., who has missed two of the past three seasons and has admitted to drug use. His comeback bid in 2005 included 18 starts for the Hoppers, and he has lived in Greensboro off and on for 18 months.
  19. Sports Tuesday, October 31, 2006 Marlins prospect arrested in Greensboro By Rob Daniels and Eric J.S. Townsend Staff Writer GREENSBORO -- Jeff Allison, the troubled Florida Marlins baseball prospect who pitched for the 2005 Grasshoppers after surviving a near-fatal heroin overdose the previous year, is facing three felony charges -- one for heroin possession and two for possession of stolen vehicles on consecutive days in the Triad last week. Greensboro police records indicate Allison, 21, was arrested Oct. 25 when an officer saw him driving a white 2002 Dodge Ram truck that had been reported stolen. A chase ensued and resulted in the discovery of heroin and drug paraphernalia in the truck, specifically syringes. A day earlier, High Point police arrested Allison and charged him with possession of a different stolen vehicle. Allison faces court appearances Nov. 30 in Greensboro and Dec. 4 in High Point.
  20. FOSTER AND PORTER PACKING FOR THE BIGS October 20, 2006 (Miami, FL) The Florida Marlins have announced their 2007 coaching staff, which includes two former members of the Greensboro Grasshoppers field staff. Steve Foster and Bo Porter have been named to the staff under first-year manager Fredi Gonzalez and will serve as bullpen coach and third base/outfield coach, respectively. Foster, 40, joins the Marlins as bullpen coach for 2007, his third season in the Marlins organization and his first as a Major League coach. He spent the 2005-06 seasons as the pitching coach with Greensboro and this past season helped guide the five First-Round Draft Picks that made up the Hoppers starting rotation. Prior to joining the Marlins organization, Foster worked as a scout with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for three seasons (1996, 1999, 2000). In addition, Foster had stints with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1997-98 as the head coach and the University of Michigan in 2001-02 as pitching coach. A 12th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in the 1988 June Draft, Foster made 59 ML appearances with the Reds from 1991-93, going 3-3 with a 2.41 ERA. Porter, 34, joins Florida as the club's third base and outfield coach and will also serve as the club?s base-running instructor. This season will be his first as a Major League coach, his third in the Marlins organization. Last year, Porter managed the single-A Jamestown Jammers and served as the organization?s outfield coordinator. In 2005, he worked as the Grasshoppers hitting coach. Prior to 2005, Porter had a 10-year playing career, including parts of three seasons in the Majors. Porter appeared in 89 games in the Majors with Chicago (NL), Oakland and Texas, hitting .214 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and eight RBI. He played 1,064 games in the minors after being selected by the Cubs in the 40th round of the 1993 June Draft. Both coaches were part of the inaugural field staff for the Hoppers in 2005 and worked together under Manager Brandon Hyde. FYI, Brandon Hyde was promoted to manager of AA Carolina

  22. South Atlantic League Top 20 Prospects List Teenagers lead the way on Sally League list By Matt Meyers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOP 20 PROSPECTS 1. Eric Campbell, 3b, Rome (Braves) 18. Aaron Thompson, lhp, Greensboro (Marlins) 19. Matt Maloney, lhp, Lakewood (Phillies) 20. Josh Outman, lhp, Lakewood (Phillies) The low Class A South Atlantic League usually has its share of standout teenage prospects, but 2006 was unusual because four of its brightest young talents played most or all of the season at the tender age of 17. Charleston outfielder Jose Tabata, Hagerstown outfielder Fernando Martinez and Rome shortstop Elvis Andrus gave the Sally League a modern-day version of Willie, Mickey and the Duke. If you asked three different SAL observers to rank them as prospects, you were likely to get three different answers. In the end, the consensus was that Tabata's bat has a little more to offer at this point and puts him ahead of Martinez and Andrus. The debate is far from finished, and with Tabata and Martinez playing for New York teams and Andrus playing for a Mets division rival, it could rage for a while. Another contentious debate centered around the Greensboro pitching staff and which of its four high school first-round picks from the 2005 draft offered the most promise. Chris Volstad's impressive polish edged out Sean West's considerable ceiling for top honors there. There was no question, however, as to the No. 1 prospect in the SAL. It's difficult to get a consensus about much in a 16-team league, but scouts and managers unanimously held Hickory outfielder Andrew McCutchen in high regard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  23. I read where Bostick...Yorkin....Tyler and Nestor are going to Arizona this fall as is Gaby Sanchez and a few oothers..... Only 6 people from each team go to the AFL (3 pitchers and 3 hitters). Five players have to have at least 30 days in AA. There is one single A exemption. I think that was supposes to be Gaby Sanchez before he broke hjis foot (dont know if hell be ready or not) I thionk that is the reason that Scott Nestor was sent to AA Carolina on July 31st (in order to get him his 30 days in double A) boy - i Guess I explained the usual allocation. As the marlins have very few, if any hitting prospects at the higher levels, i guess they HAD to send more pitchers than hitters

Ungs will make his last Albuquerque start tonight and then heads off for Team USA, along with Mike Kinkade. Oft-injured, but high potential arm, Allen Baxter, moves from the GCL to Jupiter. Baxter pitched last night for Jupiter hitting 97-98 on the radar gun. A little wild though
