July 27, 200620 yr Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley sustained an injury to his left knee during the Browns' first 11-on-11 drill of training camp on Thursday. Bentley got tangled in a pile of players as he was blocking on a running play for Reuben Droughns. Bentley screamed, "No," before remaining on his knees as the Browns moved their scrimmage up the field so trainers could attend to the 6-foot-2, 309-pound player. He stayed on the ground in a seated position for several minutes before Cleveland's medical staff immobilized his left knee and carted him to the locker room. Bentley covered his face with a towel on the short drive to the field house as Browns players and fans looked on in shock. The extent of Bentley's injury is not yet known. July 27, 200620 yr Author Newly acquired offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley was driven off the Browns practice field in a cart after injuring a knee in the team's first practice today. A source close to Bentley said there is a fear he has a partial or complete tear of the patella tendon in his left knee and would require surgery, sidelining him possibly for the entire 2006 season. Bentley was to undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury. Results were expected to be available this afternoon. Bentley's body language after being hurt did not indicate the injury was minor. He stayed on the ground for several minutes after the first running play of an 11-on-11 drill. He had an air cast put on his leg before being put on a cart. He lay back on the cart with a towel over his face as he was taken to the locker room. Bentley went for the MRI on crutches. Team trainers did not allow him to put any weight on his left leg. Bentley was considered the major off-season free-agent signing move by the Browns, who gave him a six-year deal worth a total of $36 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed.
