October 1, 200620 yr We just had our draft today. 12 person league, live draft, on sportsline. I think my roster is chock full of fantasy studs. What do you think? C- Jason Arnott C- Olli Jokinen RW- Mark Bell (He is going to have a great season playing next to Cheechoo and Thornton in San Jose) RW- Marian Gaborik LW- Alexander Ovechkin (I died when he didn't go in the first round) LW- Marco Sturm D- Jay Bouwmeester (I've had him every year I've played Fantasy hockey, 3; He is set to have a huge breakout season) D- Dion Phaneuf (I can't believe he was available in round 3) D- Wade Redden D- Michal Rozsival G- Manny Fernandez G- Marty Turco (My first round pick) Now for the Backups C- Nathan Horton LW- Fredrik Modin D- Brian Cambell G- Pascal Leclaire (He is my sleeper pick)
October 1, 200620 yr I've only played fantasy hockey once, but I know the goalie's are huge and that the biggest variation from league to league is the +/- stat. Goalie wise, I think you're very, very set. If +/- is big in yours I'd be a little concerned, if it's strictly points based, Gaborik, Ovechkin, Jokinen and Bouwmeester are all really really solid in a deep league.
October 1, 200620 yr Author +/- I am not too worried about because Rozsival and Redden alone combine for about a +50 if the consensus projections are met. JayBo, Olli, Marian, Phaneuf, Arnott, and Bell should also all have some really solid +/- numbers.
October 2, 200620 yr What pick did you have? Turco in the first round is iffy. Especially if you had a high pick. He hasn't gone in the first round in either league I've drafted and those were full, 16 team leagues. However, I'm not saying that it was a bad pick. He's a wall.
October 2, 200620 yr Author I had the 10th pick. And Kipusroff was already gone and Luongo won't have the win totals that Turco will. Actually, I had the 11th pick, check that.

And last year, I would've won if it were not for the fact I was handicapped by poor goaltending outside of Henrik Lundqvist. But I got Ovechkin with my second pick, so I'm happy. :mischief

I have a draft set for tonight. Since you seem to be the only other fantasy hockey player I know, I'll let you know how it goes.

October 2, 200620 yr Your roster seemed rather exciting, especially with Ovechkin. However, this excitement fades when one sees the name Jay Bouwmeester. :|
October 4, 200620 yr J. Thornton J. Nieuwendyk M. Naslund M. Bell T. Selanne M. Afinogenov B. Morrison N. Lidstrom D. Phaneuf N. Horton N. Zherdev R. Olesz C. Joseph M. Gerber R. DiPietro O. Kolzig
October 4, 200620 yr Author You got a good mix of old and young there. Thornton, Phaneuf, Lidstrom, and Naslund should be your good guys. Your goaltending is rather weak, though. Joseph is not going to play more than 50 games due to his age. Gerber probably won't do as well as last year. DiPietro has never been a really solid fantasy goaltender. And Olaf Kolzig has a weak defense to contend with. I'd suggest trying to trade Neiuwy and one of your young guys (unless its a keeper league) for a true number one goalie.

I actually missed the first two rounds. By the time I got there, almost every goalie was gone. It's not a keeper league. I really do need a true #1. I was going to rely on Gerber but contending with Emery (who is #1 on the Sens' depth chart right now) could be hard. We'll see what happens.
October 4, 200620 yr Author Ahh that sucks. I'm suprised you missed the first two rounds and still got the offensive talent you did.
October 4, 200620 yr Ahh that sucks. I'm suprised you missed the first two rounds and still got the offensive talent you did. I totally missed the draft last season in this same league with the same people and still made the playoffs. :lol

I totally missed the draft last season in this same league with the same people and still made the playoffs. :lol Ditto. And I got screwed with horrendous goaltending. My only bright spots were really Jokinen, Lidstrom, and Zetteberg from my roster last year. :lol Well, after the draft finished, that is.

My only bright spots were really Jokinen, Lidstrom, and Zetteberg from my roster last year. :lol Well, after the draft finished, that is. I was also scrounging for a goalie all year. I made about four different trades before I wound up giving up a lot of talent that I didn't want to give up for DiPietro, one of the most overrated players in the league.

And tonight he's proven my point. 5-1 Coyotes with 8:00 to go in the second period. And they just scored again.
April 2, 200719 yr Author Well, I figured I'd bump this thread. I won my league! It feels so awesome right now! My lineup that won the league: C-Jason Arnott C-Nathan Horton C-Olli Jokinen RW-Marian Gaborik LW-Alex Ovechkin LW-Darcy Tucker D-Jay Bouwmeester D-Brian Cambell D-Dion Phaneuf D-Michal Rozsival G-Fredrik Norrena G-Marty Turco My Reserves: C-Anze Kopitar (Huge for the entire season for me, until his injury) RW-Steve Sullivan (Same as above, got him on the free agent line in November as Darcy Tucker and Fredrik Norrena as well!) D-Wade Redden G-Manny Fernandez
April 22, 200719 yr I finished next to last in my league. Damn injuries. In my public league, I finished second though.
