I remember when I posted by Senate Election preview, some of the fellow Democrats on this board were a bit skeptical of his race in Tennessee, and while their's still cause to worry, Ford has run an excellent campaign and is now a slight favorite to pick up that seat. He's been helped by the fact that his opponent Bob Corker, while an adroit politician has blown through most of his money in the primary.

 

However, Ford's recent successes can be laid mostly on the fact that the guy has tapped into how to win in Conservative America, even if you're skin color poses a slight problem(whatever the polls say, I still say their's some who will hesitate on election day to vote an African American to the Senate, but that problem is not exclusive to just the south).

 

He's ran an excellent populist campaign, which the Democrats need to realize is their key to winning back rural America. Claire Mcclaskill, Jon Tester, and Bob Casey have taped into that rhetoric and are now reaping the benefits(It doesn't hurt that Conrad Burns and Rick Santorum are completely aloof).

This just shows that Democrats if they get the right men to represent them can win in places that were previously red state lockups.

 

I'm just hoping Ford keeps this momentum carrying to Nov 7, he would be a great asset to the US Senate and to the Democratic Party. If the Democrats win the Senate(which is close to 50/50 at this point, which is a great showing from where they've started), it'll hopefully be a wakeup for the National Party, that playing to Middle America is not a bad thing, and a great night for moderates on both sides.

 

 

BTW, If the Dems take the Senate, I expect the Mark Warner for President campaign to gain some major attention from the media.

I would absolutely vote for Mark Warner if he was nominated for President in 2008.

 

I believe he's exactly the middle of the road type of Democrat this country would accept, and needs.

 

It's long past time to boot the extremists and ideologues out of office.
