Bogdanoff's future: House majority whip

TALLAHASSEE ? Incoming House Speaker Marco Rubio said he will name state Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff, a Fort Lauderdale Republican, to a top House leadership post.

Bogdanoff, an attorney who is set to begin her fourth year in the Legislature, will be House majority whip.

The job involves making certain that Republican members of the House vote as leadership desires.

It will put Bogdanoff in Rubio's inner circle of advisers.

In this month's elections, Bogdanoff, 47, fended off Democrat Christian Chiari, a business consultant and political newcomer, to keep her District 91 seat. The district runs from Boca Raton to Dania Beach.

She is one of the few elected Republicans in a region dominated by legislators from the Democratic Party.

Bogdanoff was first elected to the state House in a special election in January 2004. Earlier in her career, she served as an insurance industry and political campaign consultant.

She replaces as majority whip three Republicans who shared the post under House Speaker Allan Bense. By giving the job solely to Bogdanoff, Rubio seems to be raising the status of the partisan post.

Rubio is expected to name several key appointees before Tuesday's organizational session of the Legislature.

Very unexpected, but it's a great move by Rubio. She fended off (easily) a conniving Dem in her district when the majority of incumbent Reps in that area were removed from office. She is outspoken and respected by her peers on both sides of the table. A conservative but flexible and willing to listen. I have no doubt that she'll be able to bridge a number of gaps between the GOP and Dems on certain issues. Assigning her this post just goes to show how influential and respected she is in the state. And entering just her second term, this is a remarkable feat on her part. Her district (91) encompasses Ft Lauderdale north to the southern tip of Palm Beach, east of 95, so she's local to most of us on this message board.

Here's to a bright political future that seems destined for promotion!!!!
