Posted October 8, 200321 yr Has anyone noticed that this season has been kind of a roller coaster ride. Well Im going to compare it to my favorite baseball movie ever...Major League (1) movie--they started out the season the joke of baseball with an owner trying to relocate the team, and where only drawing a few people to the games Marlins-Started out the season with rumors spreading about contraction and reloaction. Baseball people laughed at their chance of doing anything this year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-Started out in a funk and the season looked dim. Marlins-started out in a funk and the season looked dim. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-hired an older manager that had been out of baseball working at Tire World, smoking cigars, who quickly came in and put the players egos in check Marlins-about a month into the season hired an older manager who had been out of baseball, has a fondness to cigars, and quickly put some egos into check (brad penny anyone) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-A great game pitched by a rookie (Wild Thing)turned their season around. Marlins-A great game against the Mets pitched by a rookie with a Wild delivery started the upswing for the Marlins. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-had a center fielder who was extremly fast who was a terror on the base baths. Marlins-have a center fielder who is extremly fast who is a terror on the base pads. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-A grizzled veteran catcher, plagued by injuries, whom everyone thought was washed up took control of his team and the young pitching staff. Marlins-a veteran catcher, plagued by injuries, whom everyone thought was washed up took control of his team and the young pitching staff. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie-An older pitcher that seemed to be out of place in a team of youngsters, and relied on sauvy(sp) not his fastball to get hitters out. was one of the cornerstones of the team(name excapes me at the moment, but he had a foundness of KY jelly and Jalepeno) Marlins-A veteran pitcher from the Twins comes over and is a direct contrast of his younger team, and relies on placement not his fastball to get people out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Movie-by the end of the year the stadium was packed, and they went on an unlikly run to get into the playoffs. Marlins-65k+ during the last round of the playoffs, and they went on an unlikly run to get to the playoffs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Movie-well it ends after they get to the playoffs Marlins-thats where the similarities end...
October 8, 200321 yr Author actually I thought the catcher part was the best one lol. Pudge came to the Marlins to prove that he could still play, and Jake came because he wanted to keep playing. Although I do realize that Pudge got 10 mil and Jake prlly got like 20k. Jake did come through with a clutch hit to seal the deal even though it was a bunt, and thats all Pudge has been doing.(granted Jake bunted a single, and Pudge has been hitting shots, but like the old saying goes it all looks the same in the box scores)
