Forsberg trade requests

With the NHL trading deadline more than a month away and the Flyers 24 points out of a playoff spot, trade requests for Peter Forsberg have begun.

No fewer than 11 NHL teams have contacted Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren regarding the availability of the Flyers' 33-year-old captain, who is in the final year of a two-year, $11.5 million contract.

The New York Rangers, who own the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, are believed to be one of the teams seeking a veteran center to replace Blair Betts on a second line with Brendan Shanahan and Marcel Hossa.

The Rangers apparently have their sights set on Forsberg, Vancouver's Brendan Morrison and Los Angeles' Craig Conroy.

Any trade involving Forsberg would require him to drop the no-trade clause in his contract. Forsberg said Friday he might consider going to a Stanley Cup contender on a rental basis, but his main focus is getting his right foot feeling better.

The Rangers likely would offer center Petr Prucha, 24, who has struggled this season (10 goals, minus-12) after a breakout rookie season with 30 goals. The Rangers might also part with 20-year-old center Brandon Dubinsky, a second-rounder in 2004 who has nine goals in 40 AHL games with Hartford, and perhaps a first-round pick in this year's draft.

The last big trade between the Flyers and Rangers came in 2001 when the Flyers sent Eric Lindros to New York for Kim Johnsson, Jan Hlavac, Pavel Brendl and a third-round pick (Stefan Ruzicka).

with us only 4pts out of 8th he would be a big addition but I doubt he goes to the panthes we never make trades to add only to subtract it seems at the mid-point
