Chicago Cubs retire "WIN" flag

Chicago - The Cubs front office today announced plans to officially retire the famous "WIN" flag proudly displayed after victories at Wrigley Field. The flag has not been used for many games and was beginning to show signs of neglect. "We have always taken our time to evaluate these types of decisions, we have only retired two numbers prior to this in Cubs history." said President Andy MacPhail, "But we feel confident that we can continue at our current pace with our "LOSS" flag."

The white flag with a giant "W" has been flying high above Wrigley's scoreboard since 1917. It has been lowered and raised every season by members of the Vastero family. It was currently being raised by grandson Kusco who has suffered from Muscular Degeneration for the last 3 seasons.

The ceremony with take place during the next home stand against St. Louis. Ex-Cubbies Ernie Banks and Billy Williams will be on hand to discuss how they felt as their numbers were retired years earlier. Sammy Sosa will represent his team on the field during the festivities. "I am used to it" said Sosa.

The Cubs are in another pennant race for last place and feel that they can pull it off by end of season. "As long as I have Fassero, Alfonseca and Cruz in my Bullpen, and batters like Hundley, Mueller and Rosie Brown, we are guaranteed to lose another 100 games this season" said Manager Kimm. "Daddy likes the big L."
