July 14, 200719 yr another situation where all i can do is wonder if fredi is actually trying to lose baseball games rather than win them. if anybody understands fredi's decisions or feels like defending them, please, i am all ears, enlighten me. replacing dontrelle immediately with olbermueller would've been one thing, but how do you seriously put in wes after alfredo's 3 run homer? 8-5 at home definitely makes it a ballgame again. anybody who actually truly wants to win has to believe 8-5 at home entering the 6th leaves you with a decent shot. if fredi really expected wes to strand that runner on 2nd and not allow any more runs, thats extremely silly and i am speechless. otherwise, it seems as though once again fredi does not know who to bring in and when to bring in them. or, maybe our manager needs training in being more competitive. it just seems very basic to me: don't bring in the minor league long relief pitcher after the team has rallied to cut the deficit in half and make the game more, not less, competitive. i'm no erasmo ramirez fan and i know this isn't fredi's decision but if obermueller isn't sent down after tonight, will he ever be as a result of his continually terrible performance? and please don't even try to tell me fredi had to save the bullpen. with that reasoning, wood should've pitched from the moment it was 8-1
July 14, 200719 yr Fredi Gonzalez is purposely trying to lose games because the owner wants to move the team to Miami. But the ultimate team of misfits is going to band together and win for themselves, not for anyone else, complete with a montage where they slowly undress a lifesize poster of Jeffrey Loria for each win they need to win the pennant. Turning point of the season is when Aaron Boone, the grizzled vet confronts Miguel Cabrera, the prima donna about his lackluster play in the field: Aaron Boone: What I was concerned with was why you didn't come up with that grounder that Rockert hit in the 9th Miguel Cabrera: It was out of my reach, what do you want me to do dive for it? Aaron Boone: Miggy, it could have meant the game! Miguel Cabrera: Oh come on cut the rah rah sh*t Boonie! Year after this I go free agent. Plus me and my agent got a couple of plans for life after baseball. So I am not about to risk major injury or displace this property for a collection of stiffs! Aaron Boone: Ya know Cabrera, I liked you so much better when you were just a ballplayer. If you wanna be an interior decorator now that's none of my business. But some of us still need this team. Now you listen to me! This is my last shot at a winner and for some of the younger guys it could be their only shot. I don't know what happened to you. But if you ever, ever tank another play like you did today, I'm gonna cut your nuts off and stuff em down your f***in throat! All that's missing is Harry Doyle to announce the games. Harry Doyle: In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't, the Marlins have managed to win a few ball games, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar. (Probably more appropriate last year, but with the "omgfrediislosingtehgamesonpurpose" bit that seems to be catching on, I figured it counts)
July 14, 200719 yr I didn't like it either, but seriously, I felt you couldn't take him out with another 5 innings left in the game. You had to leave him in to save the bullpen...then again, he still managed to use every relief pitcher we had outside Mando. God, I want to like Fredi so much, but every day he makes another strange decision that makes me curious to find out what the hell he is thinking. July 14, 200719 yr Author i really wanna try to like him too and to understand what he's doing. beinfest, who i consider the smartest man in the world, picked him so that says a lot imo. but his decisions continue to be curious, if not baffling at times. why is gregg pitching at the end of the game if your gonna let obermueller pitch early on? he needed work? are we going to hear early next week that gregg needs rest?
July 14, 200719 yr yea, since when do you bring in obermueller to get the third out. he should only be in blowouts. for some reason i don't think fredi understood the score. i think if the score was 3-0 instead of 8-5, he would have managed differently. maybe he missed the amazega home run? in a three run game lindstrom and benitez don't pitch, but ramirez and obermueller pitch. give your team a chance. in a close game use your good pitcher first to hold the deficit and give your offense a chance to score three runs off the nationals. if you are forced to use a ramirez later in the game( which you shouldn?t considering miller/pinto can go multiple innings) then fine. the worst pitchers should only be used in extras when your hands are tied. There's a message on how to manage a game to win Fredi....
