Vi ses s?nare, Ed Belfour (Cross Posted at Southeast Shootout)

It appears future NHL HOFer and recent former Florida Panther, Ed Belfour, is off to Sweden to play. The only interest in him this summer was as a backup in the NHL, though our rivals the Lightning could've seriously used his skills. Eddie the Eagle is a prideful and extremely competitive personality so it is understandable that even at his age, he would want to be starting in net for a top team. That's at least what was intimated through the media and the blogosphere. If Eddie was going to play overseas, he was going to be playing for a powerhouse team like MoDo you would think. However, it seems that the interest overseas even was lukewarm at best. Eddie the Eagle, according to several published reports as signed on to be the starting goalie of Leksand in the Swedish Elite League. Not only has he gone overseas but he is now playing for a team that can't even cut it at the tier one division (think Premier League Soccer) and instead will be playing for a team hoping to regain its position in the tier one division of the League.

Ed Belfour joins a growing number of former NHLers who are enroute to European and Russian Leagues due to low interest in them in the salary cap age of the NHL. He joins fellow former Cats Juraj Kolnik and Jamie McClennan in Europe. However, don't expect Eddie the Eagle to be making any Zamboni specials on TSN this year! (Jamie, however, might go ahead and due it in Russian now)...
