Graham Taylor Up

Featured Replies

They moved him up finally to Jupiter

Probably starts Thurs or Fri

Now just move up Raynor and Blake Jones!!!!

Nice...saw him pitch earlier in the year...liked his stuff. Got a bunch of people to swing and miss (somewhere round 6 or 7 Ks) + a bunch of ground balls in the game I went to. He kind of came out of no where. hadn't even heard of him before this year.

John Sickels liked Taylor.... not as a top prospect but enough to atleast mention him in his book

I read the topic Ramp and thought the majors, I was like WTH.

Nice jump though for the kids. I am very happy to hear it I just wanna see Coughlan get on track. Any chance we will see cousins get a bump too?

edit opps it was started by tycharles sorry :) So used to ramp getting this info first lol :)

Finally. I have been wanting this one as much as Cousins/Raynor/Coghlan.

Like a said a few weeks ago, (and obviously this isn't directed at you GF)....

I no longer will get the least bit hyped about someone tearing up the SALLY on the offensive end, especially if they are a college kid. As we've seen over the past several seasons, these college guys just destroy the pitching in that league. Our last 2 minor league POY on the offensive ends have been Brad McCann and Gaby Sanchez. Both college kids. McCann stalled out in Jupiter and is now with another organization. Gaby Sanchez is having a solid season and while that .828 OPS is nice, it isn't that OMG season he put up in the SALLY (.317/.447/.603). That and he is still quite old for the Florida State League.

Fast forward to this season. Chris Coghlan, Scott Cousins, John Raynor, and Spike McDougal all are having (or had in Coghlan's case) very good seasons up in Greensboro. College kids just get "it" up there.

On the other hand, you can look at Greg Burns (not yet 21) and especially Logan Morrison (just turned 20) and open your eyes a bit as neither are college guys. I'm not suggesting either are uber prospects but I think their numbers mean a whole lot more than the college guys.

Now in terms of Graham Taylor. I don't think he is an super spect either but when you play in a hitter's league and go 11-3 with a 2.68era, .222ba, while walking just 18 to 135 strikeouts, you certainly need to think this kid has a chance to stick. He is now going to a pitcher's haven in the FSL and could thrust himself on the prospect map with a solid few good outings to end Jupiter's season.

Something I will never understand is why both Brad Stone and Blake Jones are still in Greensboro.

The Marlins drafted Stone out of Quincy U last year in the 12th round and put him in Jamestown to start. In 7.2 innings he gave up 1 earned run on 6 hits and 3 walks. He earned a promotion to Greensboro and finished off his first season there. In his 34.1 innings in Greensboro to end 2006, he gave up 36 hits, 8 earned runs, 11 walks and he struck out 17. So this season, he gets "stuck" in Greensboro again. In 52 innings, he has a 2.60era and a .232baa. He has given up 47 hits, 15 earned runs while walking 15 and striking out 43.

His buddy Blake Jones is in the same boat as him. He was drafted in the 25th round out of Northwestern State U in the 2005 draft. Last year in Greensboro he went 6-5 with a 4.73era with a .285baa in 51.1 innings. He saw some time in Jupiter as he gave up 3 runs in 9.1 innings of work. Back in the SALLY this season, Blake is 5-4 with a 1.91era in 41 games. In those 46.1 innings, he has given up 30 hits, 10 earned runs, while walking 11 and striking out 42.

Now I'm not suggesting that either of these guys are the next Mo Rivera/John Wetteland combo, but sometimes the moves (or lackthereof) that we make boggle the mind.
