NEW YORK -- Former Cardinals and Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez's two World Series rings are missing from his Manhattan apartment.

Hernandez noticed the 1982 St. Louis Cardinals and 1986 New York Mets rings missing when he paid a visit Friday to his East 49th St. apartment, which has been under renovation, police say.

The rings are estimated to be worth $10,000 each, according to authorities.

Hernandez, considered one of the best first basemen of his time, won 11 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1978-88 and shared the National League's Most Valuable Player Award in 1979. He started his career with the Cardinals in 1974 and joined the Mets in 1983.
