In the 14 games he has played for the Isotopes this season, outfielder Joe Borchard has a hit in 12 of them -- 12 straight to be exact. The native of Panorama City, Calif., extended his hitting streak with a strong showing in the Isotopes' series against both Omaha and Memphis last week. Borchard absolutely torched the Redbirds, recording 11 hits -- including four home runs -- and scoring 12 runs. He scored nine times in the five-game series. Borchard is hitting .485 with 11 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs for the Isotopes, while boasting a 1.021 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage.

Outfielder Scott Cousins redirected four pitches over the fence this week as his efforts helped propel the Grasshoppers into third place in the SAL's Northern Division, where they currently sit 3 1/2 games behind Hickory. The 22-year-old simply exploded against the Crawdads Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with three home runs and a whopping nine RBIs, dwarfing his previous '07 season high of four, which he'd accomplished twice. Cousins is hitting .288 with 40 extra-base hits, including 22 doubles and 18 home runs, and has 73 RBIs this season for the Grasshoppers.

I've heard some scouting reports pretty high on Cousins so to see him playing solidly is encouraging.

I love Scott Cousins. When Ramp got him in the Baby Marlin draft, I got so depressed I withdrew myself from the draft.

 

I was hoping he could get a late season promotion to Jupiter, but I guess he started late with his injury and all. Hopefully he can succeed at Jupiter and we will see a High A / AA season in 08 from him.
