Daily Farm Report Thread 7/19 - 7/25
Morrison walked three more times today, is this guy even human? What an eye this kid has! It's just a matter of time he starts tearing the ball. Now 38BB 24SO on the season. The double header at Jacksonville was two of the most exciting game I have seen in a while. Suns came from behind and won them both in the last inning. CLUTCH

Skipworth and others to DL
Any word on how much longer Ceda is going to be out? Torn labrum, out for the year Thanks. I would have looked it up myself but my browser was giving me serious problems. Horrible news though. He would have certainly factored in with the big club this year if not for the injury. With the labrum, it's not even just a this year thing. Tommy John is one thing, but shoulder injuries are just things that pitchers never come back 100 percent from and they will have recurring injuries. Sean West came back from Labrum surgery pretty quick ( he only missed 1 season ).....He is pitching pretty well right now.

Ryan Tucker
Right now Tucker is out pitching Volstad. Last I checked.....The Fish were doing fine without either one of them. The Mudcat staff has established that they have the ability. We need to let them learn the mental side of pitching that only comes from maturity and experience. 2009 Marlins will probably look a lot different than the 2008 team. There are a lot of arbitration eligible players that could cloud the payroll picture. All I can say is "KEEP IT UP BOYS....YOUR LOOKIN' GOOD".

Houston
Well I scored some tickets for Friday's game against the Astros and I was able ot schedule a 'business' trip to get to Houston. Does anyone know where ethe Marlins stay in Houston? How about places to eat/drink near the team hotel or the ball field. I here it is an easy place ot park, Agree? :mis2 p Thanks for the help!! Most of the visiting teams stay at a Hotel called the Westin Galleria. It is right next to an extremely large shopping area near loop 610 in Houston. They usually stay there so the players wives can spend money while their husbands are playing baseball. The rooms are not that expensive and the area is really nice. Plenty of places to eat and things to do in the Galleria area. Parking is $10.00 near the park, but only $15.00 right across the street from the left field entrance, (Crawford street) hence "Crawford Boxes" There are usually plenty of parking spots up close because most poeple don't want to pay $15+ dollars to park.

Fish MiLB Catcher #31
I recently acquired game-used catchers gear that was used by the Jamestown Jammers. It has #31 written on the chest guard. I was wondering if anyone knew of a catcher wearing #31 for them? Something makes me think D'Antonio, but I'm not sure. I need to know, because I would like to get it signed. (Please let it be Hayes' gear). Volstad was #31 in 2005. but the Jammers wore red, white, and black then. What color is the gear?

Baseball America Marlins Top 10 Prospects
Id put them Volstad, Thompson, Sinkbeil, Gaby H., Tucker, Coghlan, Dominguez, and then it's all a crap shoot. I find it hard to believe a pitcher with a catastrophic arm injury is ahead of all but three prospects in our system. Lou....I like your list better! I also like Brett Hayes better than some of the others on BA's list. Andy Jenkins had a pretty good year and probably boosted his prospect status. Dominguez was limited to a extremely small number of AB this season and IMO still has a lot to prove. ( he is still very young)

SAL announces Post-season all-stars
Outfielder John Raynor is the lone representative for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, but did also take home the Most Valuable Player Award after hitting .333 with 13 homers, 57 RBIs, 54 steals and 148 hits in 116 games. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp

Scott Cousins - SAL / Joe Borchard - PCL
Pacific Coast League Joe Borchard, Albuquerque .520 (13-25), 9 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 6 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB, 1.040 SLG In the 14 games he has played for the Isotopes this season, outfielder Joe Borchard has a hit in 12 of them -- 12 straight to be exact. The native of Panorama City, Calif., extended his hitting streak with a strong showing in the Isotopes' series against both Omaha and Memphis last week. Borchard absolutely torched the Redbirds, recording 11 hits -- including four home runs -- and scoring 12 runs. He scored nine times in the five-game series. Borchard is hitting .485 with 11 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs for the Isotopes, while boasting a 1.021 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage. South Atlantic League Scott Cousins, Greensboro .348 (8-23), 8 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 5 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB, .913 SLG Outfielder Scott Cousins redirected four pitches over the fence this week as his efforts helped propel the Grasshoppers into third place in the SAL's Northern Division, where they currently sit 3 1/2 games behind Hickory. The 22-year-old simply exploded against the Crawdads Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with three home runs and a whopping nine RBIs, dwarfing his previous '07 season high of four, which he'd accomplished twice. Cousins is hitting .288 with 40 extra-base hits, including 22 doubles and 18 home runs, and has 73 RBIs this season for the Grasshoppers. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp

Thompson #19 on BA weekly HOT SHEET
Nobody, as far as I know. What I meant though was that a top 100 prospect that goes on a streak is going (and should) get more attention, then a 1 star prospect because it's likely the 1 star prospect's streak is a fluke. I'm just surprised Volstad isn't getting attention. No attention! Volstad is the Golden Child of the Marlins organization. He gets almost all of the attention. Please......tells us what you really mean.

Thompson #19 on BA weekly HOT SHEET
Volstad has been "Lights Out" since his promotion. Keep it up Chris...Were all pullin for you.

Thompson #19 on BA weekly HOT SHEET
19. Aaron Thompson, lhp, high Class A Jupiter (Marlins) The 20-year-old's up-and-down season certainly hit a high point on Tuesday when he tossed a seven-inning, three-hit shutout against Brevard County. The lefty, a 2005 first-round pick out of a Houston high school, struck out seven and walked two. Thompson missed most of June with an arm injury and went a combined seven innings in his first two starts back. He tossed a seven-inning two-hitter but then yielded seven runs in 10 innings over two starts before Tuesday's gem. Tonight he tosses 8ip 5h 0er 1bb 3k AT and Jupiter get the win 2-1 http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...eet/264693.html

Hammerhead errors?
It looks like the Jupiter Hammerheads are making alot or errors this year. I listened to the game last night and they had three that killed them. Does anybody know if their team total for the year is high.....or is that typical for a High A club?

How many more days...
With the new signing deadline in place and no Draft and Follow option available.....A lot of the Draft picks have already come to an agreement but have not signed yet. MLB has asked the teams who sign players above slot money to wait to announce it in order to keep signing bonuses down. So I would assume our 3 guys fall into one of the two catagories. 1. Players who have agreed to sign for ABOVE slot money and are waiting to announce it. 2. Players who have not agreed to terms yet and are waiting to see what others get so they can negotiate for a higher bonus. Just my guess !

Reds Promote Bruce, Cueto to AA; Watson to High A
With Adam Dunn, Josh Hamilton and Ken Griffey Jr where will Bruce play? from an extremely reliable source ( you wouldn't believe who if I told you ) ! Adam is Done with Cincy.

Coghlan is in Jupiter
Nice to see Sinkbeil pitch a CGSO tonight, walking only 1 and giving up only one XBH(a double). Ft. Myers is a really weak hitting team though, if he does it his next start I'll begin to get excited about Sinkbeil again. FYI : The Starting pitcher for Fort Myers tonight "Zack Ward" has a 3.14 era but is only ( 2-12 ). He must get little to no run support. He defines " Tough Luck" loser. Nice to see Jupiter get some more sticks.....they need them. Good luck boys !
