August 4, 200718 yr Ramp, are you optomistic about signing all 3? I haven't read anything to make me think we don't...
August 4, 200718 yr With the new signing deadline in place and no Draft and Follow option available.....A lot of the Draft picks have already come to an agreement but have not signed yet. MLB has asked the teams who sign players above slot money to wait to announce it in order to keep signing bonuses down. So I would assume our 3 guys fall into one of the two catagories. 1. Players who have agreed to sign for ABOVE slot money and are waiting to announce it. 2. Players who have not agreed to terms yet and are waiting to see what others get so they can negotiate for a higher bonus. Just my guess !

August 7, 200718 yr I am a nobody but I got a friend who is a scout for a organization. The reason why none of the Top 3 Marlins picks have been signed becuase they signed for more than Slot Jameson Smith signed the day after the draft and was sent to Jamestown but then MLB got involved. Mike Stanton also signed early but since he is a 2 sport guy the Marlins had to pay more as well Needless to say- All 3 Guys will be playing by Aug 13 or 14 Jameson Smith- Jamestown Mike Stanton- GCL(With move up very likely) Matt Dominguez- Jamestown(If he puts a good showing in and Greensboro is fighting for 1st-the Marlins staff might move him there)
August 13, 200718 yr The Signings have started!! Per BA The Marlins have agreed to terms with second-round pick Mike Stanton, and the deal will be completed once he passes a physical. Stanton signed for $475,000 as the 76th overall pick, for which the draft slot was $418,500. Stanton?s bonus will be spread over four years (though not the usual five) under MLB?s provision for multisport athletes. Stanton was one of the best athletes in the entire draft, a three-sport star at Notre Dame Academy in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was recruited by Southern California as a wide receiver/linebacker and would have played football and baseball for the Trojans.
August 13, 200718 yr The Florida Marlins signed 2nd round pick Mike Stanton and 3rd round pick Jameson Smith to contracts today. The Marlins have signed 16 of their top 18 picks, with Taiwan Easterling deciding to go to school instead of sign with the Marlins. All that leaves is 1st round pick Matt Dominguez. As for the boys we just signed, he's more info on each of them. Arguably the best athlete in the entire draft, Mike Stanton was a three sport start (baseball, football, basketball) at Notre Dame Academy. Recruited by Southern Cal as a wide receiver/defensive back, the Marlins inked him to a $475,000 signing bonus (about $60,000 over slot). I think the main issue with USC is that they wanted him to play baseball, and would allow him to walk-on to the football team. (UNLV offered him a full football ride with a chance to play baseball). Stanton is as raw as you can get in terms of where he is right now as a baseball player. He was overmatched in the 2006 summer showcases, even with improved pitch recognition throughout the year. The 6'5 monster projects as a corner outfielder with an average arm. He has big time power potential as well, so he could slide in at first base if the outfield turns out the be a problem for him. With the 106 overall pick, the Marlins signed former Clemson Tiger Jameson Smith to a $310,000 signing bonus. In transferring to Fresno City College, he put himself into a bit of a showcase in the state of California. The left-handed hitting catcher hit .380 with 9 homeruns and 61rbi in 51 games for the Rams and was co-Player of the Year in Northern California. He has very good patience and is very athletic behind the plate. "What makes Jameson special for the next level is he's a left-handed hitting catcher who can hit for average," Fresno City assistant Eric Solberg said. "He's a ... hard-nosed player who lives and breathes the game." He will spend his first 2 weeks in the GCL and then finish up his season with Jamestown.
August 13, 200718 yr Good news. Nice to see we're going to go to the deadline with Dominguez instead of, oh say, Rick Porcello.
August 13, 200718 yr Do we have a chance to sign Kellen St. Luce or will he be matriculating at Vanderbilt?
August 13, 200718 yr Holy sh*t. That paragraph makes me love Mike Stanton (I really stopped paying attention to the draft after the first round). Though I also get a hardon for any guy over 6'5. POWER GO! All a guy needs to do with that kind of size is to develop an eye. I pre-claim him for next year's adopt a marlin :mischief I take it the only reason he fell down that far was he was very likely to go to USC?

He wasn't really ranked that high as a prospect going into the draft. Maybe that has to do with him not playing in alot of the summer camps due to football, I don't know. Supposed to have awesome power, nice project guy.
August 14, 200718 yr Author 6th round pick, Tawain Easterling, currently at FSU playing football, says he hasn't spoken to the Marlins in a couple of weeks but said anything could happen. At the beginning of the process he said he had a set number in mind of what he wanted from the club and the Marlins' first offer wasn't what he had in mind, so he took the other route to Tallahassee.
August 14, 200718 yr I highly doubt anything gets done with Easterling. Dominguez should be very close on terms, the signing bonus is the last thing to be settled waiting to base on slotting
