  1. Hech has been making solid contact, his glove is still shaky imo
  2. That is the only thing missing for a perfect off-season Woohoo!
  3. Friday and Sat night games will always have the best crowds. You can buy tickets at the park on gameday or in advance. I suggest in advance since it's your first time. You can also pay for parking when buying your ticket in advance. If you don't want to pay $20 for parking, you can park in the area below on the street for free, or pay $5-15 to park at someones house. You will see them holding signs and waving you in. If you want to be a little adventurous and save $, do what I do. It's not difficult at all. Parking = free. Tickets = $5 each. Food = Good and cheaper than inside. Beer = Whatever you want. Parking: Anywhere in yellow will be free street parking. It's the best area, but it's not dangerous at all. Just find a place to park, and walk to the park. Tickets: Find a scalper. They are all over the place on the ballpark grounds. It will usually be a black or black looking guy. They will want $20. Say you will only pay $5. They will try and say no, but don't be afraid to walk away and look for another scalper. Usually they will call you back and say OK. You won't pay more than $5 a ticket. I've paid $3 a ticket when the game was just about to start, and the marlins were really bad. The scalpers pay $1 a ticket, so don't be afraid to get your price. Check the tickets before you pay for them. It's never happened to me, but I have heard stories at other ballparks where the scalpers sell old tickets. Just check the date. Make sure you are sitting with whomever you are going with. Best part about this, besides the price, is being able to really go wherever you want in the ballpark. Walk around, checkout the bar in left field, and if you see an empty area that you want to checkout the game from, just go sit there. There are plenty of aisles that don't have someone checking tickets. Most games are 1/2 empty so you can take your pick of where to sit. Food: Street food. There are people selling food on the street. Eat that food. It's good, and cheaper than what's inside. Beer: BYOB. You can't take it inside (unless you are motivated to), but you can buy food, drink beer, and enjoy the ballpark grounds. Then once you've got a nice buzz going, head inside. Last season they had some standup tables and the layout of the exterior provides a decent amount of sitting area. If you don't want to bring your own, you can walk to the walgreens on the north corner of the park, and buy some there. This is what I like to do. It ends up being really really cheap, and I have a great time. Squall you are a genius next time I'm in town I''ll hit you up...It's on me!
  4. Arturo Rodriguez didn't make the list? What?
  5. I know I had seen this but I couldn't find the details Well, here there are: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/minor-league-transactions-dec-24-jan-8/ Miami Marlins Signed: RHP Salvador Sanchez (Somerset (Atlantic)), C Arturo Rodriguez (Tijuana (Mexican)), 3B Scott Sizemore, OF Tyler Colvin A 23-year-old catcher who threw out 40 percent of basestealers in the Mexican League in 2014, Arturo Rodriguez appears to have intriguing upside potential with the bat as well. The righthanded batter hit .379/.421/.618 with 15 home runs in 300 at-bats for Monterrery and Tijuana last season, ranking third in the ML in batting and slugging.
  6. Can play CF has Major league experience...good signing!
  7. Marlins still have great pitching depth in their Organization Nicolino, Urena, Jarlin and even Conley Someone will begin asserting themselves by the end of this upcoming season I would not rule out Hand and/or Koehler Hand was pitching very well by season's end for the Marlins he was starting to look like what we all wanted him to be in 2013 when we were counting on him as a top starting prospect. Big Salad has done nothing but get better in that 5th starter spot. I really believe that no team in the majors looks forward to hitting him when he is due in the rotation, he was one of the best 5th starter in the majors last season, and is still improving. Pitching-wise we are OK , bringing in another starter is a luxery even if Latos pursues free-agency
  8. I would sign Shields. The contract won't be massive, and it gives us insurance if Latos walks next year. The rotation in 2016 looks like total shit as it stands. Fernandez Alvarez Cosart Shit 1 Shit 2 I wouldn't call Latos shit Sorry Too Much Champaign Happy New Years All
  9. These Minor League Free agents are still available One may actually be our 4th Outfielder Jeremy Barfield Engle Beltre Lars Anderson Xavier Avery Ezequiel Carrera Tyler Colvin Mitch Maier Adam Melker Melky Mesa Edinson Rincon *except Lars Anderson he is more of 1st baseman Left Fielder
  10. mhmmm Breaking Bad Marathon or Marlins Marathon? Marlins are in the Win Column!
  11. Maybin is a throwaway...He has no chance at making the roster Franchy is a low level SS almost 3 years away ( I love the name I love the power)
  12. I am sure the Padres would love Haren the problem is what to get back.... I would Love to get Franchy Cordero and Maybin
  13. What the Hell are the Padres doing down there? They might have a decent team for once
  14. The only major move I want to see the Marlins do is to sign Yoan Moncada...I don't think he can be signed yet but The Marlins need to make it happen... You put him as your starting SS over Hech, the lineup would be explosive! 1. Dee Gordon (L} 2nd base 2. Martin Prado ® 3rd Base 3. Christian Yelich (L) LF 4. Giancarlo Stanton ® RF 5. Michael Morse ® 1st Base 6. Marcell Ozuna ® CF 7. Yoan Moncada (S) SS 8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia (S) C
  15. People keep on forgetting how well Hand was pitching at the end of the season . He has a legitimate opportunity to open the season in the starting rotation. As he has had chances for the last 2 season. I saw him becoming the type of pitcher we all hoped last season. I guess with Heaney we all have set aside the thought of Hand being the southpaw in our rotation but now that he is gone Hand can be again the lone lefty starter Rotation Anderson 24y/o Cozart 24y/o Latos 27y/o Hand 24y/o Koehler 28y/o or Phelps 28y/o Haren 34y/o (hopefully will be traded)
  16. Having a hitter at the top of the lineup who is more likely to avoid making outs is much more statistically desirable than having a guy who steals 60 SBs. The base stealing component is conventional wisdom, but really overstated. The general rule for sabermetric lineup optimization is to avoid as many outs as possible at the top of the lineup. But of course, if the OBP between two players is very similar, then you would default toward the guy with more SBs. Also, Ozuna, Saltalamacchia, and Morse are note exactly high OBP guys, so you are drastically overstating the impact that their presence on base will have on Gordon's "most useful part of the game" (SBs). All three are much more balanced toward power than on base ability. In fact, if you are really that worried about other guys being on base in front of Gordon, then you would just swap him with Hechavarria (hit Gordon 8th). Then you set him up better to be moved around by Yelich and Prado. So in other words, in my scenario, the only real measurable impact on reducing Gordon's opportunities to steal bases would be him getting less PAs over the course of the season, which should be the case anyway. Why do people try and reinvent the wheel? Conventional wisdom isn't necessarily a bad thing. Having Gordon lead off will impact more than the stats can provide, and that's why managers still put players like him at the top. They have more of a positive impact than OBP alone will suggest. Billy Bean changed the rules of the game not penguin, Pengui is not wrong... However last season was Gordon first full season as a MLB starter so I kind of have the impression that we may see more discipline from him as a hitter sooner than later. We know he can put the bat on the ball and put it in play. He just has to avoid getting fooled at the plate as much as it was happening at the 2nd half of the season. That is mostly maturity and experience...He didn't take BBs doesn't necessarily mean he is a free swinger. He just needs to show more focus at the plate . The fact that Brett Butler is one of our coaches and he had very similar skillset to Dee Gordon but was an amazing OBP guy should work in Dee's favor. Gordon to begin with just needs to perfect his bunting skills and studying the pitchers more. BTW with the Dodgers he had some awesome coaches to work with as well (John Valentin, Dave Lopes and Manny Mota)
  17. more on Flores and Castillo... http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2014/12/19/7425955/casey-mcgehee-trade-giants-prospects-kendry-flores-luis-Castillo Flores just missed the Giants' top-10 list in Baseball America earlier this year, though he did show up on the best under-25 Giants. The 23-year-old was the 14th-ranked prospect before the season according to a 20-list consensus from Beyond the Box Score. This season, he had a 4.09 ERA in the hitter-friendly Cal League, though he had a mighty fine 9.5 strikeouts for every nine innings he pitched. His home run rate was slightly inflated (again, Cal League) and he wasn't exactly young for the league The 22-year-old Castillo didn't make a single one of those prospect lists on Beyond the Boxscore before the season, possibly because he was a reliever in the low-minors. He had a high strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio in Augusta this year (10.1) and an iffy walks-per-nine (3.8). let's just assume that he's a hard-throwing, raw, bullpen arm.
  18. About Kendry Flores.... http://goldengatesports.com/2014/11/12/get-know-giants-prospect-kendry-flores/ The young man’s best asset is his control. He’s known as a great command pitcher, as he consistently pounds the strike zone. An impressive 3.99 K/BB ratio for his career proves that. In 2013, he tallied the best mark in the entire organization with an awe-inspiring 8.06 K/BB rate. Flores’ fastball is his best pitch. He throws a four-seamer that normally sits between 93 and 95 mph and a two-seamer that runs 91 to 93 mph. He has great command over both, as he can pretty much pinpoint where he wants to throw them. The two-seam fastball also has solid late, tailing-movement that makes it difficult to be squared up. The fastball is complemented by a pretty good changeup, which provides approximately 10 to 12 mph difference from the fastball. He also has very good command of the changeup. Flores also features a slider and a heavy, 12-6 curveball, both of which are average to above-average secondary pitches. Flores is very sound, mechanically. He has a smooth motion that is easily repeatable start to start. His delivery is nice and compact, and he doesn’t fly open after delivering his pitch. He also takes a relatively short stride step, which leaves him with a good place to plant his foot over and over again. After making his pitch, he leaves himself in a good fielding position.
  19. I know just about everyone is aware of my man-crush for Trea Turner, that I have had since he was at NC State. The fact that he hit close to .400 (ended up hitting .369) 976 OPS and showed good pop at A level baseball has made me drool even more. He also showed that he will be a very good defender. He was totally a different player once promoted to the Midwest League. He just tore it up! How would I not know what is going on with him Someone please give me his address I have some stalking to do
  20. Kolek would have to been signed for a year to be traded..BTW Not Happening Trea Turner was just traded as a PTBNL in the San Diego / Will Myers deal and he was in the same draft class so he actually can be traded. If you read the news about the trade Turner is being traded as PBTNL there are abut at least a dozen links that I could give you that say he cannot be traded now because he hasn't been signed for a year that's why he can't be named now in the trade...He is still a Padre until then but why anyway does it matter Rydawg you must be playing with me about this, cause I know you didn't just post this seriously
  21. Kolek would have to been signed for a year to be traded..BTW Not Happening
  22. Anyone would like to see Ian Desmond at SS for the Marlins next year? The Nats are reportedly looking to trade him. It appears they would be getting Trea Turner in the Will Myers trade as a PTBNL who would project to be the SS of the near future BTW Desmond is from Sarasota
  23. People rip on him for inconsistent options, cherry picking stats, and generally just saying whatever he wants without backing it up. This guy called the move. Lucky, irrelevant, w/e. Let him enjoy it. mostly irrelevant
  24. I hate it when people do this. It's not like there were a ton of options to begin with. No there wasn't... I just said very early on it made sense , I am not claiming anything else But I did say last season McGhee would be a great signing for the Marlins...anyone want to say they thought that as well?
  25. I would fignite he would've been the most realistic option. With Moran gone, what do you have? Anderson is a year away at least. Anderson is more like 2 years away
