Stanton to AA Jacksonville

Featured Replies

I know someone who works for the Jupiter Hammerheads and they told me Stanton got called up to Jacksonville today. Can't find it anywhere online, but I'm sure there will be something soon.

Edit: Official

Michael Stanton is on the fast track.

The Marlins are promoting the 19-year-old outfielder from Class A Jupiter to Double-A Jacksonville. Stanton's first game in Double-A will be on Friday.

At Jupiter, the power-hitting right fielder appeared in 50 games. In 180 at-bats, he was hitting .294 with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Stanton, a second round pick in 2007, is regarded as one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

About damn time. Now we will see how Stanton adjusts to the callup.

Wow on the one hand I am excited about having the best prospect in baseball on the fast track to the bigs, but on the other I wish I would have found the time to make the hour drive north to see him play in Jupiter.

I wouldn't call Stanton the best prospect in baseball just yet. He's certainly on that track though. I think by next year he could be tops in baseball, depending on what he does in AA.

No, but if the Marlins are moving him up aggressively, and starting to shop Cody and maybe Hermida....

Let's just say I'm not going to be shocked if August is a Morrison-Maybin-Stanton OF.

You see Morrison getting called up even with the injury?

If they are clearing house, why the hell not? Morrison is going to be back soon. Raynor, Cousins, and Petersen all suck. What other options do they have?

At this point, with the aggressive promotion of West and Leroux also, continuing to play Bonifacio, and playing a natural 2B/3B in LF, etc, nothing is off the table. Nothing's going to surprise me anymore.

I'm glad I got to see him when I did, best of luck to him in Jax. I was thinking about a trip up there this summer, now I'll think about it a lot more!

Good news for Stanton. With the numbers he's put and his improvement in K rates I'm not worried about him being rushed. I'm hoping Jeff Allison isn't gonna be far behind.

I don't agree with that at all. If they're clearing house, they might as well have an Amezaga-Maybin-Carroll outfield instead of rushing Morrison and Stanton. There is ZERO reason to rush these guys up when they can be progressing at a normal rate in the minors.

Puma, same thing could've been said about Sean West, who based on his numbers showed he still wasn't ready for the major leagues. We easily could've stuck with Penn in the rotation, but we opted to put West in the line of fire. Fredi is unpredictable like that recently.

Kids a baller. Tear it up Micheal and get your butt up here.

Its really starting to seem like the FO doesnt give a damn about this year for the big club.

Still like Morrison better at 1B.

Do you think any of the outfield guys not named Stanton, Morrison or Maybin we have projects better than Gaby? If not then we need both Gaby and Morrison on the field at the same time. I'd rather have Morrison than Gaby in LF, and I'd rather have Gaby than Raynor, Cousins or Peterson.

This was Bill James' projection for Gaby Sanchez this season: .296/.377/.483/.860

CHONE had him at a .770 OPS, Marcel had a .779, Oliver at .806, and ZiPS being the lone projection system on FanGraphs to be truly pessimistic, .724.

I know you hate him, but you need to give him some credit. He's going to hit a ton of doubles and mid teens, maybe 20 in a career year home runs. You know who made a living being a damn good first baseman by doing that and hitting .280? Lyle Overbay.

I dont hate him, I just dont see that potential. I see a guy who struggle to get to 10 HR a year and whos amount of 2Bs will be greatly reduced by better defenses at the MLB level. I just dont think his bat will play at 1B. Maybe he proves me wrong, maybe he doesnt. One thing people have always been weary of is his low power potential.

It's not like he's a speedster legging out infield hits or something. He's consistently been a guy who hits the ball hard, doesn't strike out and walks a good amount of time. He doesn't have prodigious power, but he's one of the 4 best bats that is realistically close in our system, and he should be at least average. If you can get him and Morrison in the lineup at the same time, you do it because that is what's best for the team.

You are the exact opposite of marlins1 when it comes to gaby, but really your exactly the same.
