June 5, 200917 yr Let's not get too crazy. It's a great promotion, but I don't think we'll be seeing him in September or even next year (at least at the start). I think the organization will want to see how he fares with a full year of AA or better. Next June would be the earliest I could see him being up and most likely he will be a September callup for 2010 and a big leaguer for 2011 (assuming he stays on current path).
June 5, 200917 yr awesome, I'll be seeing him soon up here. :thumbup and Trey I think it's contingent on how he plays. If he's raking in AA... I mean fast-tracking a guy is pretty much the norm with this organization.
June 5, 200917 yr Do you think any of the outfield guys not named Stanton, Morrison or Maybin we have projects better than Gaby? If not then we need both Gaby and Morrison on the field at the same time. I'd rather have Morrison than Gaby in LF, and I'd rather have Gaby than Raynor, Cousins or Peterson. You think this wouldn't be a hard concept, but it is. There's no doubt future team is this. And by future, I mean.... probably August or September at the rate they are going. June 2010 at the latest. C - Baker 1B - G. Sanchez 2B - Coghlan SS - Hanley 3B - ?* LF - Morrison CF - Maybin RF - Stanton B - Bonifacio, Hayes, Raynor, Petersen/Cousins, and Wes Helms/Future "Veteran Presence" guys *With the organization praying that Dominguez is ready in 2011 to complete the puzzle
June 5, 200917 yr Right, this was the whole point of moving Logan to the outfield. It's not that Gaby is blocking him at 1B, just that he's the next best player in the pipeline. If Cousins were tearing up Jax this season for example you could conceivably look at him in the OF for 2010 and keep Logan at 1B.
June 5, 200917 yr If you truly think cousins, petersen and the rest will be better than gaby, then yeah put morrison at first. I don't happen tothink they will, so Morrison goes to left until someone better than gaby can come in and play the outfield.

Well, just for conversational purposes, what about just sucking up the defense and putting Gaby at 3B (started like 60 games there in 2008), Logan 1B, and letting a free-for-all develop in LF? I guess that could be a scenario until Dominguez is ready.
June 5, 200917 yr That's a possibility, sure. If hanley and bonifacio can play the excellent middle infield duo we might get away with that. And spike, you know who else was going to struggle to hit 10 home runs at the major league level? Kevin youkilis, who never hit more than 8 in a minor league season, but hit a good amount of doubles. Granted he and gaby aren't very comparable as players, just saying that you can develop power. I think he has some and will develop moderate home run power and with his doubles power he'll be perfectly capable of being an average player at worst.

June 5, 200917 yr I actually use stats for every argument, you just ignore them. His HR/PA in the minors is very low, it translates to about 10 in a MLB seasons worth of at bats. Where I and Marlin1 differ, bobbob...I have a realistic view of him as a player. He projects as a guy who will play OK defense but whos power(or lack thereof) wont play at 1B. Marlin1 has already guaranteed he will be an All Star, silver slugger, gold glover, and probably a Hall of Famer. Even though it took a lack of OF depth for Gaby Sanchez to even be in the discussion for 1B.
June 5, 200917 yr Unless I'm worse at math than even I thought, in his career he has 1 home run every 35 plate appearances, which averages out to about 20 in a full season of 650 plate appearances. Not sure where you are getting your numbers from... He was powerless in Jupiter, that's about the only stop where your number is correct. Over his last 666 plate appearances (this year and last year) he has 21 homers, 45 doubles, 180 hits, 80 walks and 94 strikeouts. I'm not saying he's going to be an all star, but more than likely he'll be a pretty valuable ball player. Christ, your hatred is blinding.
June 5, 200917 yr I don't see anything wrong with expecting Gaby to become a .800 OPS bat, with some peak years around .850 where he hits 20 HR. He profiles as a great 6 or 7 hitter on a contending team, and lucky for us we have Hanley, Morrison, Stanton, and Maybin looming who all seem to have bashing futures. I'll be really happy if Gaby can do a .280/.350/.450 at the MLB level. Anything more is a bonus. So what if he has 15 HR power. So does James Loney, and he's more than solid. I'd love a Sean Casey/James Loney/Scott Hatteburg kind of dude in the lineup.
June 5, 200917 yr Morrison is coming off a wrist injury and has played all of 2 games in AA so I'm not ready to make him a star at the MLB level and Maybin has had a horrific year so his future as a productive MLB player is not a sure thing.
June 5, 200917 yr I dont hate the guy at all. Just dont see the potential some others do. Gonna admit you were wrong on the hr/pa thing? And did we ever get confirmation on whether it was Morrison's thumb or wrist?
June 5, 200917 yr It's not like he's a speedster legging out infield hits or something. He's consistently been a guy who hits the ball hard, doesn't strike out and walks a good amount of time. He doesn't have prodigious power, but he's one of the 4 best bats that is realistically close in our system, and he should be at least average. If you can get him and Morrison in the lineup at the same time, you do it because that is what's best for the team. You are the exact opposite of marlins1 when it comes to gaby, but really your exactly the same. Watching them fight over Gaby makes my nights brighter sometimes.

June 5, 200917 yr Why the John Raynor hate? limited power, large strike out totals. Players can still be good if they have limited power, or high strike out totals, but both really really hurts a player, because ML talented pitchers can eat them up. Also very high BABIP inflates his minor league numbers. What his AAA line is right now is probably around what to expect, except (hopefully) more walks.

Maybin RHB 2. Coghlan LHB 3. Ramirez RHB 4. Stanton RHB 5. Morrison LHB 6. Domingez RHB 7. Baker LHB 8. Sanchez RHB That's just straight up nasty!
June 5, 200917 yr I dont hate the guy at all. Just dont see the potential some others do. Gonna admit you were wrong on the hr/pa thing? And did we ever get confirmation on whether it was Morrison's thumb or wrist? No. He was at 47/HR in the NYPL, 53/HR in the FSL, parks that would lend themselves more to the field at Dolphin Stadium. He was better at Greensboro and Carolina, both hitters parks. Either way, it averages out to about 1/38 AB for his career. The average # of ABs for a MLB 1B per season over the past 5 years is around 480. That is just about 10 HR/year, although I would expect it to be lower bringing up the tougher hitters environment.
June 5, 200917 yr I get called crazy for saying he will be brought up this season. The future is now. Dump half the roster and let Coghlan, Morrison, Sanchez, and Stanton battle it out.

LOL, you bend the sh*t out of those numbers to make them fit. You make it sound as if you were basing it off a full 162 game season, first off, and even in 480 at bats you are looking at 14 at his pace, which I believe is 1/35.5, though that's kind of nit picky. So yeah, if he doesn't play a full season, and you judge him by his absolute worst performances (rather than the 21 home runs in basically a real full season's worth of at bats over his last season +) he projects to 10 home runs a year. good call. He does enough well that if he hits 15 home runs, he'll be a very nice player. He'll never be an all star, but unless you are wildmarlin, nobody judges a players worth by being an all star. You can be a productive and valuable member of a good team at first base if you hit 15-20 homers, walk 60-ish times, and hit .280. You are being irrational when it comes to him. You have to being stuff so that it fits your preconcieved notions. That's a bad sign.
