Marlins announce Minor League on-field staffs, coordinators

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins today announced their Minor League on-field staffs and coordinators for the 2008 season. The announcement was made by Marlins Vice President of Player Development and Scouting and Assistant General Manager Jim Fleming.

Dean Treanor will return to the Albuquerque Isotopes for his sixth season as manager of Florida's Triple-A affiliate. He managed the Marlins' Triple-A club from 2002-03, then returned in 2005 after serving as the organization's pitching coordinator in 2004. Prior to joining the Marlins organization in 2002, Treanor spent time as a Minor League pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Montreal Expos, and as a Minor League manager for the San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians. Treanor's on-field staff in 2008 will include pitching coach Richard Gale, hitting coach Steven Phillips and trainer Steven Miller.

First-year skipper Matt Raleigh will manage the Double-A Carolina Mudcats. He returns for his 15th season in professional baseball, after a two-year hiatus running his private baseball academy in New York. Raleigh was a hitting coach in the Marlins organization from 2002-05. His on-field staff with Carolina will include pitching coach Scott Mitchell, hitting coach Theron Todd and trainer Ben Heimos.

Brandon Hyde will manage the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads, after serving last season as manager at Carolina. He managed the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers from 2005-06. Prior to his managerial tenure, Hyde spent two seasons as Greensboro's hitting coach and was a coach for Long Beach State University, his alma mater. His on-field staff with Jupiter will include pitching coach Reid Cornelius and hitting coach Anthony Iapoce. The team's trainer will be announced at a later date.

Edwin Rodriguez will lead the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers with pitching coach John Duffy, hitting coach Jorge Hernandez and trainer James Stone. This marks Rodriguez's second season at the helm of the Grasshoppers, after two seasons as manager of the Marlins' Gulf Coast League affiliate from 2005-06. He served as hitting coach for Double-A Carolina in 2004. Prior to joining the Marlins organization, he was manager of the Princeton Devil Rays of the short-season Appalachian League from 2000-02, and was skipper for the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Penn League in 1999.

The Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League will be managed by second-year skipper Darin Everson, who made his coaching debut in 2006 as hitting coach for Single-A Jupiter. Pitching coach Charlie Corbell Jr., hitting coach Johnny Rodriguez and trainer Julio Hernandez will round out the Jamestown staff.

The Marlins' Gulf Coast League affiliate will be guided by manager Steve "Doc" Watson with pitching coach Jeff Schwarz, hitting coach Andy Haines and trainer Cesar Roman.

The following is a list of the organization's Minor League coordinators:

field coordinator John Pierson, pitching coordinator Wayne Rosenthal, hitting coordinator John Mallee, infield coordinator Josue Espada, outfield and base-running coordinator Tarrik Brock, catching coordinator Tim Cossins, rehab and training coordinator Gene Basham, and strength and conditioning coordinator Josh Seligman.

Nothing earth-shattering here. One name not mentioned in the article is Luis Dorante, who has left the organization after all these years to be bullpen coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates. All the best to El Capit?n. Also, good to see Rosey's still around. He ought to get promoted, though. :cool
