January 28, 200818 yr The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent third baseman Pedro Feliz, pending a physical. Feliz batted .253 with 20 home runs and 72 RBIs last season with the San Francisco Giants. Feliz The deal includes a team option for 2010, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press on Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been announced. Feliz will likely replace the trio of Greg Dobbs, Wes Helms and Abraham Nunez that the Phillies used last season. Philadelphia's third basemen batted .255 with 11 homers and 76 RBIs last year. Dobbs and Helms remain on the roster. The defending NL East champion Phillies also added outfielders Geoff Jenkins and So Taguchi and pitcher Chad Durbin in free agency this offseason. They acquired closer Brad Lidge and utility man Eric Bruntlett in a trade with Houston. My Take: I'm Ok with this move. Neither Dobbs, or Helms is an everyday 3rd basemen, and we already have Platoon in right. 20 HR playing in SF could translate to 25-30 in our bandbox. He is a decent fielder, Crappy OBP, and AVG, but nice pop in the back of the order. Upgrade over what we had, and who knows.. Maybe you guys or the yanks might want to give Helms a look.
February 3, 200818 yr As a Giants fan, I'm glad he's not coming back. He never lived up to his potential... But I hope he does well in Philly. He should at the very least have a few more HR's there.
