How about them Fightin' Fish? That was unbelievable.

 

When you look back at this game, you'll look back at one guy. Josh Beckett threw a complete-game shutout in Game 6 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. It gets no better than that.

 

A lot of people got on Jack McKeon for throwing Beckett out there on three days' rest, but I was with him. Who knows what's right? Three days, four days, five days? Rest is a mental thing.

 

Everyone's body is different. This guy is 23, this is the World Series. Who cares how much rest he had. Beckett wanted that ball, he knows his body. As for McKeon, it turned out to be the most unbelievable move in baseball when you saw the result.

 

I was with Beckett when he first came up. We rode this guy a lot when he was younger. You have to do that with young guys some times.

 

But he's a true professional and he's made a name for himself. Everyone in the world knows who Josh Beckett is now.

 

The Marlins were so resilient. They were a bunch of guys who weren't supposed to beat the Giants. They were never supposed to beat the Cubs, especially after they fell behind, 3-1. And nobody thought they'd beat the Yankees. And here they are, world champions.

 

They beat the Yankees three times in a row. Josh Beckett and Pudge Rodriguez were just remarkable. To celebrate at Yankee Stadium, that's what it's about.

 

This was an emotional thing for me. I spent nine years in that organization.

 

There's definitely a feeling of happiness for a lot of guys I sweated with and showered with and worked with for a long time. Mike Redmond, Mikey Lowell, Derrek Lee, Luis Castillo. We lost a lot of games together. We went through a lot.

 

I called Mike Redmond and Lowell about five minutes after the game tonight just to leave them a quick message. I told them how much they deserved this.

 

We went through so much in Florida. From the negativity to the 5,000 fans every night to the humid, hot and rainy days. Everything was against you. Those guys busted their butts to get where they got.

 

It's scary to think about how good they would have been if they had A.J. Burnett healthy.

 

I have so much happiness for them.

 

As for me, I can't help but feel an emptiness. You put all that time into an organization and then in the first year I leave, they win it all.

 

But I wouldn't change it for anything. There's no doubt in my mind that I'm a Boston Red Sox and I love that. I know that my team will be back in 2004 competing to win it all, just like we did this year.

 

Hopefully this will be good for the Marlins. Maybe they can get a stadium now and get some people believing.

 

As a baseball fan, this is great for the game. Teams like the Marlins and Royals had great years. You want baseball to be competitive.

 

This was the best year baseball has had in a long time. Everybody seems to be on an even playing field now. There are good players everywhere and that makes it fun.

 

You look around baseball and every playoff series was great. Us and Oakland, San Francisco and the Marlins, us and the Yankees, this World Series. It was just a great year.

 

I can't wait until Spring Training. There's not one monster team out there. Anybody can win this thing. The Marlins just proved that.

You can't help but wish some of the old Marlins were still here (even though this might not have happened w/them)--Millar, Preston Wilson, CJ, etc...how do you they're all feeling right now?

Millar's (clearly) happy for us though he wants a ring too, preston's annoyed, and CJ just got done throwing his TV out the window

I think of Mike Hampton...the Marlins wanted him badly....Mike??? he didn't want us. I hope that he's enjoying his Divisional title with the Braves.

Hampton didnt want to be on the Marlins because he wanted to be on a team that can "Win it All" :lol

Hey, let's give Hampton some credit. He won 4 games for us this year.

 

Is anybody else tired of listening to Millar? He went to Boston, posted his lowest OPS since 1999, is sitting home for the World Series because his Red Sox lost a series that he helped them lose, and he's still getting all this press?

 

I hated losing Millar. I was angry about that most of the season. It was one of the fews mistakes that Beinfest made, thinking that Hollandsworth could do the job in LF. But if Millar had stayed, I don't know that we'd be World Champs. He'd have done a good enough job in LF that we wouldn't have had to call up Miguel Cabrera. I don't think we make the post-season without Cabrera's energy, RBIs, and versatility.

Are we still paying for Hampton in '04?

I also can't help but wish CJ was here. He witnessed everything this organization went through. He saw this team become built into world champions,he saw it get destroyed,and he came back when the team was struggling to survive being threatned with contraction.

I think the fish Pay Him in 03, 04, 05. and the Braves pay him then on.
