August 4, 200818 yr A woman, distraught over the loss of her long time pet dog, goes to synagogue and asks the Rabbi to say Yiskor (the prayer for the dead) for her beloved companion. The Rabbi looked at her aghast and said, "M'am - we don't say prayers for animals in shul." The woman replied, "But Rabbi, Sammy was my constant friend. He followed me everywhere and listened while I spoke to him and never interrupted me." The Rabbi reiterated, "I'm so sorry for your loss. But this is a house of God. We simply do not say Yiskor for family pets." The woman said, "What would you say if I told you I would make a huge donation to the Temple?" The Rabbi's eyes widened, a smile broke out on his face and he exclaimed, "Why didn't you mention Sammy was Jewish?!"
