  1. "Greatness is never appreciated in youth, called pride in midlife, dismissed in old age and reconsidered in death. Because we cannot tolerate greatness in our midst we do all that we can to destroy it." You forgot to mention who's quote that is. "Greatness is never appreciated in youth, called pride in midlife, dismissed in old age and reconsidered in death. Because we cannot tolerate greatness in our midst we do all that we can to destroy it." ? Lady Morella Lady Morella was the third wife of Emperor Turhan. God bless Wikipedia.
  2. I had extremely mixed feelings when I heard the news. I found it difficult to reconcile the contributions of the obviously gifted musician with the child molester. I also drew the parallels between Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. The difference being that Elvis actually got to enjoy a childhood, while Michael did not. He wound up being an instrument of his father's quest for attention. Michael happened to be blessed with unearthly talent and his father found a way to capitalize upon that fact. Maybe I'm jaded but don't think for one minute that opportunists aren't already hard at work pimping a movie about the "Life and Death of Michael Jackson" I wouldn't be surprised if people haven't started talking already. If you thought the announcement of his death was a media circus, wait until his funeral. This story isn't going away. The media will cover this up until the reading of his will and the announcement of the toxicology reports. So sad- he wasn't allowed to be a child, so (I assume) he thought that the closer he was to children, the more of his childhood he could recapture. I have been listening to the reports of prescribed medications playing a deadly role in his demise. I'm not surprised. When you get to that level of fame and influence, who has the guts to say, "No!" to Michael Jackson? I also think it's opportunistic of these people to come out now and say they've been concerned for years about his medicines. Why didn't they say anything earlier? It's easy to be the hero AFTER the battle is over. I actually have a Thriller album in it's original sleeve. I'm keeping it in the vault now.

    Refinancing

We've owned two home and refinanced once. I learned from my parents and smart lawyers-always, ALWAYS go with a fixed rate mortgage with a reputable lender. The first two things you should do when you are considering buying a home is 1) Talk to your lawyer 2) Talk to your accountant Then, when you have all the poop from them, go look at homes.

    Dog owners...

Let me drag my cats (Bandit, Sox & Shadow) in this convo too. They have an unlimited supply of dry food from a feeder at all times. I think cats tend not to overeat as much as dogs do. I've had both cats & dogs and I've found cats to moniter their eating much better than my dogs did. When we all sit down together (we try to have these meals about once a week), we do give them a little of whatever we're having. We give just a little and see if they like it. But this is not a daily occurrence.
  5. Anyone who has owned pets had their hearts broken by this news. Yes, MountainFish- as long as there is psychiatric evidence he is capable of committing these offenses again, they can keep him in lock up. Also- anyone arrested who exhibits any indication of depression or the possibility of hurting themselves is put in suicide watch. These are felony charges and since he's 18, he's considered an adult. I've worked with much younger children who began hurting/mutilating small animals and believe me-the potential to develop into a full blown Ted Bundy is quite real. Should we lock this kid up because we 'think' he'll become a serial killer - no. But, to dismiss the possibility as fluff is like giving the kid who loves to play with fire his own supply of lighters & gasoline. I am a big believer of human nature. I hope, with enough therapy, this kid can see the irreparable harm he has inflicted on his victims and the owners. I also know our psychiatric hospitals are fraught with too many patients and too few personnel. As long as this kid doesn't commit any further crimes, I say let him do his time in the jail, wear the anklet and get help for his obvious psychological disorder.
  6. I believe you meant to ask, "Is a meal A meal without meat?" I think it depends on your culture. In traditional America (is there such a thing anymore?) breakfast, lunch & dinner are pretty well defined but with the infusion of other cultures, the lines become blurred. When I think of breakfast, I think of the egg as the protein, the toast as the starch and the bacon as the fat. I guess 90% of the meals at my home are structured around that premise- protein, starch & either fat (breakfast) or vegetable (lunch & dinner). I would imagine most other cultures do the same, taken in to account what is plentiful & economically feasible in their region of the world. The Asian countries rely heavily on rice & seafood. Italy has it's pasta. Some Hispanic countries do rice & beans. Americans love their bread. As a long winded, round about answer to your question, no- I don't feel a meal is complete with out meat-the protein.
  7. I question why the officers would call another officer for advice. Why didn't someone of higher rank make this decision? Everything in a police dept goes on tape. It's easy enough to find out exactly what happened by listening to the recorded conversations. This story sounds like too many key components were left out for the sake of sensationalism.
  8. I haven't used the video calling feature but the regular calling feature is kinda like AIM. If you don't have a microphone, you just chat-which, in your case being a pilot and sort of having to watch where you're going, could be hazardous.

    Refinancing

IMHO, always go for a fixed rate mortgage. They might be slightly higher but in the end, it works out better for you. Your budget stays the same. Unless you can shave off at least 2 points from your previous mortgage rate, it's not worth it. Also- if you've paid in more than 1/3 of the years, it's not worth it either. Remember, when you refinance, they back the loan all the way to the beginning. Plus, there are closing costs, doc stamps & fees and all that other stuff that are built into the loan you wind up paying for at whatever percentage rate you get over 30 years!!
  10. I personally don't like Tropicana field. It's too sterile for my tastes. And, you lose the fly ball because the dome is white. I've had seats behind the Marlins dugout and above, in the mid-price sections. I prefer the 3rd base side anyway. Good luck- when will you be up there? I'm going in August.

    Circumcision

""Robert Van Howe of Michigan State University used a similar method to measure sensitivity at 19 points along the penises of 163 men, he found that the five most sensitive points were all in portions of the penis removed by circumcision, especially those in folds exposed as the penis becomes erect (BJU International, vol 99, p 864)." That's his story and his sticking to it. Somehow, I have managed to survive nearly 42 years with an uncircumcised penis without any cleanliness or sexual issues at all (and before the wiseguys kick in I've been married for 14 years and have fathered two children, so I've had intercourse at least twice). And I've never had a lady say I have an ugly cock. I'm amazed it took you 6 posts to tell us you never had a lady say you have an ugly cock. That's a lot of posts for such a small subject. Blame Admin. This forum no longer works properly in IE6. Which is the dinosaur browser I have to use at work. Too funny! Yes, I blame many things on Admin, but an ugly cock--never! :lol
  12. At the risk of sounding too mild, I think they should rip out her reproductive organs without the benefit of anesthesia and replace them with playground sand. Or, better yet- begin to rip them out, put her under anesthesia and then, bring her out of it again while they finish the procedure. An eye for an eye, baby. Oh, HELL yeah!
  13. Disney- less chance of catching an STD.

  15. For us seasoned Hurricane storm troopers and for those who are new to the area, I'm starting a list of must haves for your hurricane kit. Seeing as how I've lived in the South Florida (Miami & Pembroke Pines) area for the past 51 years, "Take me home momma and put me to bed. I have seen enough to know I have seen too much." (*nod to A League of Their Own) Since I have a family of 5 to care for, I suggest getting enough of these supplies to last 2 weeks. Some say 3 days and some say up to 2 weeks. We are lucky to live where we do in Pembroke Pines because we are on the same grid as the Police & Fire Dept., which have the same priority as hospitals. Still, I feel better being over prepared than under prepared. My hot list: Manual can opener Canned goods Baby wipes Paper plates Paper towels/Napkins Paper cups Plastic silverware A well stocked first aid kit Water Juice Boxes Purell or other hand sanitizer Powdered milk or Pharm-a-lot (what I call Hurricane milk) Clorox bleach- and print out how many drops you need to sterilize a gallon of water. Gas generator, if you can afford it Plastic gas cans 3-4 five gallon jugs Visqueen or big plastic tarps and tie downs Duct tape Batteries Battery operated weather radio Battery operated TV? Extra electrical power strips Battery powered cell phone chargers Flashlights -- NOT CANDLES!!!! Any necessary feminine products *diapers & other baby stuff (if necessary) *pet food (if necessary) Non-essentials: Playing cards board games for the kids Individually packaged snacks/chips & other non-perishable food items Beer :-) ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL: At least a 5 day supply of any medications you take on a regular basis. You can ask your doctor for an emergency refill when you see a storm on the way. Take photos of every room in your home/apt. Print them out and briefly note the age, approx. value & condition of the items. Don't leave any room out- and don't forget your closet & garage. Don't forget your jewelery & collectibles. Take photos of your car/motorcycle/other modes of transportation. Note the age, approx value & condition. Place all photos in a zip lock bag in case you need it for insurance purposes. Request a copy of your homeowner's & automobile policy and Wind coverage (if you have it) Place these copies in a zip lock bag. Print out any important information from your computer- credit card contact info, etc. Place these items in a zip lock bag. Make a copy of important documents you have in your bank safe deposit box. Marriage certificates, birth certificates, citizenship papers, etc. If you have a passport, put that into a zip lock bag as well. I usually make a small suitcase for each family member with 2 changes of clothes & the one I have for myself contains all the zip lock bags with the essential information in them. This way, in case you need to leave your home in a hurry, you're packed and ready to go. Feel free to add/delete/modify. Hack awaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!
