Berlin Still Starting QB

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami quarterback Brock Berlin will keep his starting job despite getting benched against Virginia Tech.

"We're going to play the best player we feel like gives us an opportunity to win," coach Admin Coker said Sunday. "But we're not going to have a quarterback change. Nothing warrants that."

Berlin will start Saturday when the Hurricanes (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 6 AP) host Tennessee (No. 17, No. 18).

Berlin struggled under constant pressure in Miami's 31-7 loss to the Hokies on Saturday night. He was sacked three times and was scrambling on both his interceptions. One was returned for a score to make it 17-0 in the third quarter. The other was returned to the Miami 10, setting up a touchdown that made it 24-0.

Derrick Crudup replaced Berlin on the ensuing series.

"I felt like Derrick could probably help us more with his feet, and he did," Coker said. "We needed to make some first downs. They were giving us a lot of blitz, a lot of things from the outside and putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback.''

Berlin finished 16-of-25 for 164 yards. Crudup was 13-of-21 for 97 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. He also ran six times for 38 yards.

Berlin has completed 61 percent of his passes this season, but has thrown 12 interceptions against nine touchdown passes and has lost two fumbles.

so that means he will make the pros and be given a big contract and then get benched by a hall a famer son. not a bad career. lol

Bad move. I thought Crudup should have been starting from day 1 this season. Berlin is way too inconsistent, might as well give it a shot with Crudup. But I guess this move makes some sense, going with experience against Tennessee next week. I am beginning to wonder if Crudup had a case this offseason when he was talking about the racism going on down there....
