November 9, 201015 yr The biggest news right now is the Dan Uggla contract situation. As reported by Fox Sports and MLB.com, Uggla rejected a 4 year proposal from the Marlins valued at $48 million. This is one of the biggest contracts ever offered by the franchise. A contract offer the Marlins were rumored to be stunned by when Uggla passed on it. There could be several reasons for this and speculating on that is mostly a guessing game. However, Uggla's agent Terry Bross has come out and said his client wants to remain a Marlin and that talks are ongoing. It may take a 5th year option to seal the deal, or Uggla may be persistent and wait on a guaranteed 5th year which is something the Marlins may not ever offer him. Also in the news is the catching situation for the team. With John Baker possibly out to begin the year and Ronny Paulino possibly not returning following his suspension, finding a catcher is one of the highest priorities for the Fish right now. Names being mentioned are Miguel Olivo and A. J. Pierzynski. Of course money is the biggest factor here, and other teams' interest in the backstops will ultimately determine what the Marlins do. Finding relief help continues to be an off-season priority. A list of available relief pitchers can be found here. With the expected departure of closer Leo Nunez via trade, the Marlins will look to add some middle relief help as well as a closer if possible. Pitchers like Wood, Fuentes and Soriano will no doubt be out of the Marlins price range, but it is possible a few pitchers from that list wind up in the bullpen for the Fish in 2011.
