Can anyone recall if the Marlins have used this strategy in recent years?

 

 

 

Does last September count? Adalberto Mendez is basically a career minor league reliever. Last September was so brutal...

 

May 20, 2009 against the Dbacks, Hayden Penn started a game when he was a reliever. He went 2 2/3 innings. The Hopper pitched 3 2/3, Renyel Pinto 1 1/3. Marlins lost the game in 13 innings. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/FLO/FLO200905202.shtml)

 

I also recall a game started by Eulogio de la Cruz, but I cant remember if he was a starter or a reliever at that point. Now I barely think it was a doubleheader and he was called up in between games.

I know it looks a little bit scary right now as we could be looking at losing the first 2 games to a Dodger team that we have already beat twice due to pitching situations, but I am feeling pretty optimistic about this Marlins team, look forward to getting to 30 wins tomorrow.

So with JJ not going to be ready for June 1st, what are the odds that Marlins roll with this again? June 2nd is an off day, and June 3rd would be the next day in line for the BP game.

 

HOWEVER - The Marlins play 21 games in 20 days (doubleheader in Philly) from June 3rd to June 22nd. So the BP will get relatively little rest in that time frame.

This is what we have right now. It's not bad, the bullpen -except Núñez- had close to three off days. (Not including warmup pitches and all that)
