Yankees close in on Vazquez and Lofton

Featured Replies

The Yanks will go after Lofton to be their starting CF for 2004 (while they wait for Beltran to become a FA).

They also indicate the Yanks will, as part of that arrangement, move Bernie to DH and trade Nick Johnson for either Javier Vazquez or in a Kevin Brown deal.

according to ESPN Insider

MSG reports this about the Vazquez deal:

Apparently the deal is what has been rumored: Nick Johnson and Juan Rivera....Apparently, the only thing that is holding up the deal is the Yankees hedging to include Juan Rivera as well.

doesnt rivera remind u guys of ledee?

Less power than Ledee. But beyond that...yes.

Man, watching Ledee here, I thought he was going to be flat-out awesome. He fooled me.

why does everyone seem to want Juan Rivera

he is blech imo

juan rivera is mediocre, but he hits good pitching well consistantly and he's great defensively. Definitely not a bad back up- he hits better in the postseason than Sheff...well, not 97 Sheff.

Lofton isn't a bad lead off at all, but Nick Johnson is a superior, yet injury prone player- he should only be dealt for a Vazquez type, though honestly i think our starting rotation is good as is.
