December 31, 200322 yr I don;t expect much from Joe Torre, so he will not do what I am proposing here. However, if the Yanks do not acquire another big bat, they get an open DH spot, perfect for resting Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams. With Lofton in the fold and everything else complete, here's what I would do: Vs. Righties 1. Lofton CF L 2. Jeter SS R 3. Giambi 1b L 4. Sheffield RF R 5. Williams DH S 6. Soriano 2b R 7. Posada C S 8. Matsui LF L 9. Boone 3b R Note: When Soriano is hot, which is usually april, he carries the entire team and is one of the best hitters in the game. This can warrant him batting 3rd, 4th, or 5th, especially if Giambi and Williams have their trademark slow starts. Vs. Lefties 1. Jeter SS R 2. Williams LF S 3. Sheffield RF R 4. Giambi DH L 5. Soriano 2b R 6. Posada 1b S 7. Matsui LF L 8. Flaherty C R 9. Boone 3b R Note: 8,9,1 has 3 righties in a row, but Boone is better against righty pitchers because of his pull swing by about .075 avg points. Boone and Flaherty could be switched if Boone is a hot batter. The beauty of the following lineups? Giambi will get regular rest and same with bernie williams, whose bats are important but injuries have been hurting them as of late. You get flaherty in the lineup and he has an .830 ops against lefties. Posada will be more well rested with a lot of games at first base, he was an infielder before he started catching and he takes routine grounders at times. If he plays some first at ST, there should be no problem. These in my opinion are the ideal yankee lineups...that's why Torre won't do it. I bet he will use lofton against lefties, Flaherty against righties and not use posada at first...sigh...
January 1, 200422 yr Do most yankee fans feel the same way about Torre? I've always personally thought he was way over rated a manager. Glad to see a Yankee fan thinks the same way. :thumbup

January 1, 200422 yr Author Do most yankee fans feel the same way about Torre? I've always personally thought he was way over rated a manager. Glad to see a Yankee fan thinks the same way. :thumbup It depends... Yankee fans who actually watch the games and are not brainwashed by the media dislike torre, other misinformed or bandwagoner fans do like him. there's a split. To the marlins beating us comment: the yankees added a couple of guys and you lost Pudge, Urbina, Redman, and Lee. Not to sound arrogant, but the yankees bought the best team in baseball on paper.
