March 10, 200422 yr and this is their answer to their running woes? he's decent, but he's not the answer
March 10, 200422 yr I think this is a good move by the Bucs. Michael Pittman is not the answer for us at RB and Charlie has been successful under Gruden's system in both Philadelphia and Oakland. Jon Gruden calls im I.O. for instant offense because thats what he is. Whenever he is in the game he can take one long on either a run or a catch. Even though I really liked Thomas Jones and am dissappointed about his departure, but this addition should really help us. I think he is a perfect fit for the Bucs system. GOOD MOVE!!
March 10, 200422 yr By John Clayton ESPN.com The Bucs have reached an agreement in principle with former Raiders running back Charlie Garner, opting to sign Garner over the Eagles' Duce Staley. Garner is expected to sign a six-year, $20 million contract with the Bucs that includes $4 million in up-front money. Garner was also high on the list of the Broncos, who recently traded Clinton Portis to the Redskins. The Bucs moved quickly to reunite Garner with his former Raiders coach, Jon Gruden. They had been negotiating with Staley, who visited last week. Staley spent Monday in Pittsburgh and was in serious negotiations with the Steelers. This will be the third team in which Garner and Gruden have worked together. Garner, 32, was considered instant offense for Gruden in Philadelphia when Gruden was offensive coordinator there. He signed with the Raiders in 2001 and spent three seasons in Oakland as a starter. Link Garner will help the Bucs out. And he played for Gruden before so that's a plus. They should get C Wood.
March 10, 200422 yr Hes not an everydown back but hes defintely a big play maker in the running game and even passing game that Tampa has lacked for a while.
