  1. Sup guys. Good evening CJE15. Always a pleasure having you around the game threads during Cards/Marlins series. GO FISH!! Good evening.. no offense guys and girls but my team needs a sweep (well at least 2/3).. for some reason we're still alive and playing some solid ball right now.. 45 pitches in 2 innings for Wainwright has me concerned!

LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 08/21/2007 With third baseman Scott Rolen needing an occasional day off to give his troublesome left shoulder a rest and with left fielder Chris Duncan in an awful strikeout binge, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has made some slight lineup adjustments tonight for the start of a three-game series with Florida at Busch Stadium. Rolen will be replaced in the lineup by rookie Brendan Ryan, who will hit ninth and play third although Rolen said he expected to be in the game for defense later on. [Link]
  3. Wouldnt the game revert back to the end of the last inning? Which would be the 6th? Ricks HR came in the 7th.. the Cards would win 5-4 in 6 innings.. anyways I dont think they'll call it though..
  4. Def agree with that.. hahaha.. if by some chance they call this game Ankiel's clutch homer wont count.. he had an outfield assist early in the game gunning out Theriot at 3rd..
  5. Hey Junior what was that measured at?
  6. The race is on.. Cardinals go to Milwaukee and sweep em.. Reds take 2/3 from Chicago.. This weekend the Cardinals and Cubs have a 4 game series at Wrigley.. the Reds will take on Milwaukee!
  7. Cardinals P Percival one of top feel-good stories of 2007 August 13, 2007 By Brian Joura PA SportsTicker Contributing Writer ST. LOUIS (TICKER) -- Lost in Barry Bonds' controversial run at the all-time home run mark and most recently the triumphant return of Rick Ankiel to the majors leagues, is the feel-good story of Ankiel's teammate, Troy Percival after a two-year hiatus from the game. A closer for nine years with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Percival has resumed his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, working as a setup man for RHP Jason Isringhausen. Percival has appeared in 18 games so far this season with the Cardinals and has a 2.50 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 18 innings. It was a love of the game that brought Percival back. "Just the fact that my arm started feeling pretty good," Percival said. "The doctors told me that I probably wouldn't be able to throw again, but the more I threw the better it felt. I just figured, you know what, I want to play until they rip this uniform off me and I'm going to try it again." Percival's comeback has gone so smoothly that he's already thinking about pitching in 2008. He's 12th on the all-time saves list with 324, but even next year a closer's job is not his top priority. "I'm just going to sit back and I don't necessary have to close," Percival said. "I'm going to look for the best opportunity for me to go and contribute in a decent role that means something. I'm not a long guy, I'm a little too old for that so I'm going to look at every opportunity that I have and surely St. Louis is going to be the first place I look." [Link]
  8. Cardinals beat the Dodgers, Cubs lose to the Rockies, and the Astros beat the Brewers.. Cubs 1.5 out and Cardinals 5.5 out with big games this week in Milwaukee and Chicago!
  9. BYE BYE.. Ankiel jacks his 2nd homer of the game.. 3rd of the season.. OMG! Rick Ankiel robs Russell Martin of a double.. over the shoulder catch fighting the sun.. dives .. slides into the wall but nice catch.. Edmonds like lol
  10. God almighty.. Ankiel blasts a 2 run HR!
  11. Nah but I'd prefer Juan Encarnacion to actually play.. ugh.. this kinda ticks me off now!
  12. Spiezio to seek treatment for substance abuse By Joe Strauss ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 08/10/2007 The Cardinals and Scott Spiezio concluded several traumatizing days Thursday when the club placed its versatile utility player on the restricted list while he submits to a rehabilitation program to address alcohol and drug abuse, club and industry sources confirmed. Spiezio?s problems apparently came to a head Monday night when he received intraveinous fluid during and shortly after the team?s series opener against the Padres. Exhibiting an elevated heart rate and sweating profusely, Speizio also was noticeably irritated and anxious, according to a person familiar with the situation. When it was suggested that he be hospitalized and undergo blood testing, Spiezio abruptly disconnected the IV and left the stadium, sources confirmed. [Link] Updated Story!

  15. Spiezio entering treatment program, goes on restricted list By R.B. FALLSTROM, AP Sports Writer August 9, 2007 ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Cardinals utility player Scott Spiezio is voluntarily entering a treatment program for a problem that the team did not specify. St. Louis manager Tony La Russa would not say what substances were involved or where the treatment will take place. La Russa expects Spiezio will return this season. "It speaks highly of Scott to come forward admitting recognition of a potential problem," Cardinals physician Dr. George Paletta said. "This allows the organization to provide him access to the appropriate resources for further evaluation and treatment." [Link]

  17. [Link] Aug 9: Purchased contract of OF Rick Ankiel from Memphis (AAA). Scott Spiezio placed on restricted list. Chris Carpenter transferred to the 60-day DL.
  18. Manager Tony La Russa is putting him right to work. Ankiel will start in right field tonight and bat second against Padres righthander Chris Young. [Link]
  19. Ankiel is definitely on the way up - confirmed ... We're working it ... Going to be an interesting couple of days ... I'm told La Russa asked for Ankiel to be up here in time to be with the team for the road trip through Milwaukee and Chicago ... But there is another development that expedited the process ....a player has to go ...won't be a trade, so relax on that ...but someone will go to make room for Ankiel ... Believe it's Spiezio but not confirmed ...there are some issues. .don't want to reveal anything more until we know more on a definitive basis... Crazy week down there at the old ballpark behind the scenes... Edmonds and La Russa got into it two nights ago - pretty heated I'm told... -B [Link] Ankiel Video To Watch
  20. True.. Cardinals Call Up Rick Ankiel Created: 8/9/2007 11:03:51 AM Last updated: 8/9/2007 11:32:16 AM KSDK - Years after bouts of wildness and injuries forced him to leave the mound, Rick Ankiel is coming back to the majors. But this time, he won't be pitching. Ankiel, among the minor leagues' leaders in home runs, has been called up by the Cardinals, NewsChannel 5's Frank Cusumano reports. In 102 games at AAA Memphis, Ankiel has 32 home runs and 89 RBI. He leads the Pacific Coast League in home runs, and is second in RBI. He is hitting .267. The team has repeatedly said the plan was to wait until rosters expanded in September to call up Ankiel. However, his hot hitting shows he may help the major league team now. "His season has caught everybody's attention," manager Tony La Russa said. "He's been lighting it up from the get-go, so he's building on a good impression." [Link]
  21. 590 The Fan is reporting Rick Ankiel gets the call Woot!!!!!!! YAY!!! About time!! Maybe there's a deal with an outfielder (Encarnacion).. somethin has to have happened.. dont think they'd DL Spiezio and go 6 outfielders with one less infielder..
  22. Sweep Their Asses That requires your team showing up to play and having a broom.. I dont remember sweeping many teams this year.. Ok we did two times.. both the Pirates (April and May)
  23. I'm thinking with 45% of our games left against the Cubs and Brewers, the Reds aren't dead. Lol exactly.. who the heck knows.. Cards play the Cubs and Brewers again next week aswell.. but on the road.. that'll probably be the last blow.. but who knows?
  24. Seriously does anyone want it?
