  1. My bartender friend currently working at a sports bar across the street: "MLB package doesn't work during FOX broadcast times. What you have now is all you can get."

I feel like the girl in the book "The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson" (?) who was glued to her radio listening to the Dodgers. I can't handle listening on the radio. I want to SEE the action live.

Seriously, I want to start a movement, 'Occupy FoxSports' or 'Occupy Fox Saturday Baseball' and mobilize to make them change their ludicrous blackout restrictions.

  2. IS THERE A LOOPHOLE WHERE I CAN WATCH THE GAME??? ARE SOUTH FLORIDA RESIDENTS BEING BLACKED OUT, TOO? I thought living in Sarasota I would only be blacked out from Rays national games. THIS SUCKS; I WAS LOOKING FORWAD TO THIS GAME. HELP ME.

  3. F**K this S**T! Big Fox blacked me out from watching the game, as well as MLB.TV. How the f*ck am I supposed to watch this f**cking game? I am so f*cking LIVID. SO WRONG to punish Marlins fans for living in the state. We're the ones who have the most f***ing interest in watching the game. FML.

  4. I feel kind of left out of this thread because I lack the ability to have a "man crush" ... but I do really love watching Stanton hit home runs. And I got his new jersey in a youth small before opening night. Thought I had jinxed him. Maybe it's safe to wear it again...or maybe I should just let it sit in my closet.

  5. missed the game b/c of a birthday dinner, but sweeeeeeet win!

EIGHT IN A ROW TOMORROW YEAH!

edit: so it turns out we are the franchise with the shortest longest winning streak (at 9). time to change that!

pretty sure they had one string of double digit wins (10 or 11 games) I think that game with Miggy where he had the walkoff hit on the attempt to intentionally walk him was around the time or during that streak.

It wasn't a walkoff hit because they were in Baltimore. It was back in 2006 when Girardi turned the team around in the second half. It did win the game in extras, though. Saw Miggy in spring training and asked about that play...he said he wasn't expecting to do that. It's still one of my favorite baseball moments ever.

  6. I don't blame Hamels for plunking him (it's part of the game)-but I think anyone who openly admits that they threw at someone on purpose deserves to be suspended.

If MLB doesn't suspend him then they're basically saying that it's OK to throw at people just because you think they have a big ego...

It's part of the game when a pitcher is retaliating; defending a teammate who got plunked earlier or as a purpose pitch because that hitter did some showboating earlier. That was not the case last night. It was just an ill-advised plunking.

  7. Big Z was patient after Bell blew all of his should-have-been wins, and tonight he was superb. Great starting pitching last few days. Who would have thought JJ would be the weakest link in the rotation?

  8. Sure, Harper's rep precedes him. He was kind of a showboat last year in the minors with the kiss-blowing and whatnot. Hadn't done anything to warrant getting plunked in the big leagues, but I was impressed with how he handled it. Very professional and stole home like he'd done it before. Didn't show Hamels up. I liked it. I get why Hamels wanted to do it with all the hype, but it was too soon IMO. He was stupid to go and admit it after the game.

  9. The Marlins desperately needed Buerhle to go the distance, and boy did he deliver. Stanton is on fire. What a blast. Also, I really like Hanley at third base. That is all.

  10. I don't blame him for being pissed, but that pen was really tapped last night with Johnson going less than 3 innings. Someone has to fall on the sword for the short term.

Exactly. They had to make room. He knows the drill. It was just a whirlwind week for him and he didn't even get that much playing time. He's better off getting consistent starts in Triple-A. I'm sure he'll be back with the big league club by June. Especially if Morrison's knee issues continue.

He's a good kid; usually has a pretty decent attitude. I feel a little bad for him, though.

  11. Couldn't help myself....hence the "lol" because it was a silly comment to lighten the mood...plus it was too easy of a setup for a cop joke ;)

I honestly forgot what you guys were arguing about anyway. It turned into arguing about the way the other one argues. I almost fell asleep. New day, new game coming up.

  12. What the Rays deserve is a new stadium.

Has anyone ever been to Tropicana Field? It's a dump.

They do need a new stadium, but the Trop is not a dump. I live 45 minutes to an hour from there. I've gone for fun and as a media member. I find the place endearing. It's a good environment for the most part. The only thing I don't like is the f-ing cowbells when I'm working.

  13. Almost reminds me of a postgame presser at UF in 2007 when Tebow said he prayed for the Auburn kicker to miss the game-winning FG. I was a student media member, and I REALLY had to bite my tongue there. Haha. That was a bad loss. Losing was rare at the Swamp back then.

  14. usually always

Go have your coffee, or at least be patient with the Chardonnay ;)

HAHA I definitely just rolled out of bed after staying up all night watching the f-ing game in San Diego :)

I was actually OUT of coffee, so I had to drive through Starbucks down the street a little while ago.

  15. The Rays are fine. They've dealt with Longoria injuries before. They still have the best record in baseball. Everyone pitches in on this team. They have so many versatile players who can play multiple positions. Longoria wasn't even having a great defensive year at third base, anyway. Offensively it appears to hurt them, but there's usually always someone stepping up in clutch situations for Tampa Bay.

What irks me is the attendance at the Trop during this week's series against the Mariners. 9k for two games and 11k for the other. It was something like a total of 29K for the whole SERIES. It's pathetic. This is, record-wise, the best team in baseball, and a fun team to watch with chemistry. They deserve better, with or without Longoria.

  16. Never would have guessed JJ would be the weakest link in the rotation. Go figure. And seriously, enough is enough with Heath Bell. He is not focused, either. It doesn't help with all the distractions in San Diego. I bet he was thinking about looking cool for his f***ing kids when he was out there in the ninth. He should be able to shake off the boos. I don't care how much money he's being paid to "be the closer." He's costing games, ruining multiple wins for Big Z and he needs to be demoted to mop-up reliever duty for the time being. Stop putting him in close games, period.

You know you're awesome when HANLEY gives you a big hug after the game. And the kid actually completed a 1-3 without throwing the ball away. That play made me cringe last year. He is really pwning this year, stepping up. But now Cishek is definitely unavailable tonight. Hold on to your hats, kids. This should be another hair-pulling, eye-covering extravaganza. Good thing I've got Chardonnay.
