If he can turn anything into a good SP, what’s the point in always having top prospects? Trade Sandy and Eury for big bats and keep going to the trash can for arms

I’m truly failing to see how anyone has any faith that Ryan weathers turns into anything. Especially as a starter.
He hasn’t had success at any level of his professional baseball career lol.

Cooper’s k% and bb% are career worsts
Just points to the fact that even at his career worst, he’s still better than what Josh Bell is today

This does not change the fact that Bell is worse defensively lol
Josh Bell
vs RHP: .686 OPS
vs LHP: .736 OPS
Garrett Cooper
vs RHP: .682 OPS
vs LHP: .871 OPS
We got worse at 1B today by a fairly significant margin. All they had to do was get a left handed platoon bat and 1B could’ve been solved relatively cheaply in the short term.

Or when we trade him for a bat and then everyone is mad that we traded the great HOFer Ryan Weathers.
You mean like a legitimate platoon 1B?
-
Essentially, we traded Khalil Watson, Jake Eder and Sean Reynolds to fix our FA mistake at 3B by getting Adam Duvall of 3B and marginally worse at 1B.

For now he replaces Cabrera and then he may have to replace Garrett or Luzardo later on. I'm not saying he's amazing I'm saying there's a need for him now.
Ryan Weathers is terrible at baseball. He’s legitimately never been good. This is not a Jesus Luzardo situation.
At the very best, they turn him into a reliever and it’s a Brad Hand situation. But literally the only thing this team DOESNT need is a lefty reliever lol

Cuz he's an asshole.
Then don’t sell me that they’re going to extend Jazz.

We got a little better this season. Adding Burger's power is significant, even if he doesn't do much else. Swapping Cooper for Bell is at best a slight upgrade and at worst a wash.
As much as I trust our FO with pitchers, Weathers has been terrible for quite some time now. But maybe they think they can work with him? I don't know.
Keep in mind that we also got Robertson. He definitely counts even if we acquired him a few days before the deadline. So the Marlins have definitely improved for 2023. Just not sure we've improved enough to make a legitimate run.
The Robertson deal I’m with you on. Was much needed and I’m not getting bent out of shape with rookie ballers.
I’m just not on board with Bell and Cooper being a clean swap. Coop gets beat up because he was counted on to hit in the middle of the order. He’s certainly not that type of bat. But he still has value as a platoon option at 1B.
Kim tried doing too much convincing herself going after Weathers in “replenishing the system” rather than making significant impacts to the major league roster

Maybe, I can't say much of value was lost either.
You at the very least lost your chance of a lottery ticket in Watson/Eder.
-
So we traded
Garrett Cooper, Jean Segura, Khalil Watson, Jake Eder and Sean Reynolds
For
Jake Burger, Josh Bell and Ryan Weathers
I fail to see how we got significantly better in the short term, and gained any more value in the long term

I guess Bell has a higher ceiling? Maybe? I don't know. This would have been an exciting move four years ago and a decent one two years ago. Now it's just kind of weird. Feels like Kim just went with the name rather than the production.
At least Cooper rakes lefties. Bell doesn’t hit anything. Terrible
-
Why the hell did we give up Khalil Watson for a bag of Doritos??

I am not going to pretend I knew anything about this guy before today. But another unathletic poor defensive type. That is a pattern with this team and the guys it goes after.
Burger cant stick at third. 1b/DH type, which yea, welcome to the club for this team.
This is reminiscent of their “we need power” FA binge when they went and got Duvall to slot in the middle of the order. Doesn’t BB, doesn’t have any type of hit tool, power focused fastball masher

T-minus 2 hours until we trade for Alec Burleson

That poor farm is why I'm all about trading them and going all in for 2023 and 2024. I don't see anything on the farm that isn't worth sacrificing for a shot this year and next. We can rebuild the farm later but there's no need to protect it now.
I’m with you. Let this past draft class and upcoming international group headline our next wave of talent. Everyone who is in the upper levels of the system currently can and should go for whatever can help the big league roster

STL has no real need for Watson. If you’re trading him, it’s to an organization who is high on him. Not sure STL would be that club.
STL is going to be focused on taking a couple arms that they like, likely headlined by either Eder or Meyer

Yea but gotta look at the big picture. Best season in forever. They only have to go about .500 the rest of the way for this season to be a big success for us overall. I'm enjoying this ride. Not quitting on this one.
Fair enough. I would probably be more optimistic if there was a clear path to the next wave of talent coming internally. Knowing where our farm doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies of over-achieving early in a competitive window.

Yeah when the team is literally tied for a playoff spot and 1 back of the top wild card, it is definitely a good time to quit on the year.
I think we both know how this ends if they don’t add offensive reinforcements. As a Miami sports fan, I can only take so much more pain lol
-
If today doesn’t end in a truly impactful bat headed our way - Gorman, Eloy, Donovan, hell even Alec Burleson, then it’s officially football season

Kim won't stop until we have 2nd basemen playing at every position!
This is so true lol. This has gotten so far I think a lot of people forgot that 2B is probably Jazz’s natural/best position.

Get creative and take a chance on guys whose value is low.. hear me out.
Trade prospects and Segura for Kris Bryant and cash. Put him at 3B
Trade prospects and Avisail for Anderson and Grandal. Change of scenery trade for both parties, probably wouldnt cost much at all since grandal is a FA and Anderson only has 1 year team option at 13 mil (and the fact neither have been good this year). Garcia's best year was in Chicago fwiw
You get the avi and segura money off the books for the next few years, so the bryant risk doesnt look that completely terrifying, especially for the next few seasons.. and especially if the the rockies give a decent amount of cash back. The reward could be a franchise cornerstone player. If anderson turns it around, you have an all star SS on the cheap for another year, if he sucks, decline team option. Grandal isnt good but atleast he knows how to give real ABs, something our catchers don't do.
C - Grandal
1B - Cooper
2B - Arraez
SS - Anderson
3B - Bryant
LF - DLC
CF - Jazz
RF - Sanchez
DH - Soler
Bench: Gurriel, Wendle, Berti, Myers, Stallings
That lineup wins games
I’m all for this approach. Have the white Sox include Kenyan Middleton to upgrade RH options in the pen
