MLB looking into the situation. May face further punishment. Marlins suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five games for his recent comments regarding Fidel Castro. The Marlins levied the suspension after Guillen recently told Time magazine he loves Castro and respects the Cuban dictator for staying in power so long. Guillen has already apologized for his comments, but will do so again at a press conference in Miami on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ET. MLB is reportedly looking into the situation, but it's not known if Guillen will face further punishment. Nah no way Bud Selig actually touches this. That would very unprecedented and ridiculous.

You do know Castro did not kill two million, right? Two million over 50 years is probably a conservative estimate. Why do you continually make excuses for Castro? 2 million is just absurd and comparing a Latin American dictator (and on the brutal dictator scale, he falls below some of some nastry US supported ones in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Chile) to the planned genocide of millions upon millions is silly. And to diminish the lives of the people who were obviously taken due to Castro's reign, but even the Miami Herald gives an estimate of 100k that the revolution has killed in it's lifetime, which considering the source is probably very high. Perfectly stated.

Why would you even need to go there? Latin America has a horrid history of dictators and theres reason enough to call for democracy without resorting to lies.

That's not going to be enough for some people. Some people want him fired to prove a point and to maintain their political hold over the subject of Cuba. These people want the embargo to remain and any budging from their narrative will not be allowed by them. It is politics in baseball and it doesn't belong.

I still remember when I was living in Cuba that Castro ordered the sinking of the tug boat "13 de Mayo" which was filled with around 100 Cubans trying to flee the island. The Cuban coastguard sunk it and left the people to drown. They came back 3 hours later and picked a handful of survivors. Dozens of women and children died. Cuban television did not cover the event, so people found out their relatives were dead by listening to foreign news sources. That is just one example of the countless crimes this regime is responsible for. Pretty awful. I do not advocate people be like the fools who parade around in Che shirts and Fidel hats. But do realize why the sinking of 13 de Mayo or any other number of Castro crimes or Bautista crimes or Somozo crimes or Videla crimes are not actually anywhere the systematic and racist slaughter in Nazi Germany. Equivocation is a terrible thing. It is an insult to the victims of the Holocaust Jewish or otherwise to pretend the Latin American dictator crimes are anywhere near the same.

Call it what you want, but the fact remains that WIOD has a huge audience in south Florida, and they hate the Marlins. A local radio host on WIOD that shall remain nameless was telling the audience last week that no one should go to Marlins games. Their hatred of the Marlins has been going on for a while, but Ozzie's comments just gave them a good excuse to continue. I know things like that are unfair to the Marlins organization, but their rants against the Marlins really hurt us because of the amount of listeners some of these programs have. yeah I get what you mean, but you're not going to please everyone. I know thousands of fans are happy with the evolution of our club now and are excited for the future. The baseball fans won't be swayed by the political rants and attacks that some groups will levy.

This situation somewhat reminds me of the John Rocker situation. Granted, his inflammatory remarks were in regard to another fan base and not a political comment but I think this situation is getting blown way out of proportion and a lot of people are losing the context of what Ozzie said and who the man himself is. John Rocker was a red neck who hated everyone that wasn't exactly like him. Ozzie isn't that at all. As was said, Fidel is like a cockroach in more ways than one but Ozzie admires that he hasn't died yet and I say so what? He is a baseball manager and not someone of any geo political concern. But I will say that anyone who listened to Ozzie speak at length, knows that he is anything but dumb but smart people do dumb things and to raise the name of Castro in Miami and not have it be an insult isn't the brightest of moves. Tomorrow's apology should suffice and the good people of Miami that are of Cuban ancestory should accept it and move on with their lives as the Marlins look to be a fun team to watch this year in a stadium that guarantees baseball everyday I hope he can pull it off. He needs to be coached himself tonight and I hope the Marlins understand that. He should not face the exile media without being coached what to say and how to say it.
