March 28, 200422 yr I was talking to my dad and I think cyberlina brought up a topic about this, but I just have a small question about it. According to my dad, congress is trying to pass a law that allows the FCC to sue individuals personally, so they can sue howard stern over FCC violations. Is this true? And if so, what implications would this have to free speech? I mean, let's say a Kerry becomes president and O'Reilly says something harsh- with a little bit of the first amendment stripped away, can't kerry just excessively fine O'Reilly through the FCC for slander or something? Thus, can all speech against the government then be slowed by the prospect of government fines? ]Just wondering.
March 28, 200422 yr I don't believe that they would make the law so vague that speaking out against the government would mean a fine. They would have to explicitly define what vulgar or crass speech or behavior on TV or the radio is.
March 30, 200422 yr If that is true, then what is the point of "free speech" if you're just going to be fined and censored anyway?
March 30, 200422 yr Unlike Mr. Stern would like to believe, this is not the FCC against Howard Stern... This is the FCC against anyone who dares to dissent from the goverment set of "standards"... God forbid we say what we want. "Free speech"? What is that?
