April 15, 200422 yr I will open with my take: How Do We Cut The Deficit? Make Professors Millionaires! That's right, the debt has topped 7 trillion dollars during the "super conservative" times of George W. Bush. Each American's share of the debt is $24,418.71, which would be on top of the typical American's 8 grand in Credit Card Debt. (http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/) Oh sure, we NEED to blow up countries, B2 bombers we are afraid to use, tax cuts, medicare, social security, and massive bureaucracies. We need all of these things, but just borrowing money doesn't cost anything, right? Wrong. Over the last 15 years we have to pay about 300 BILLION dollars of interest a year (http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdint.htm.) That means without debt, that extra 300 billion can go towards other things...but what? -Double the size of the military, China go kiss our ass -Make NASA 17 times better funded so we can finally invade one of Jupiter's moons -Triple financial aid to America's college students -Buy about 1.3 trillion pounds of Potatoes at the going rate -Pay for about 40% fo medicare and social security -Build a ladder to heaven -Get 300 billion different cool things at the dollar store, without tax of course Wow, that's a lot of money obviously. However, America wastes so much money every year, we just accumulate more debt, pay more interest, and get less in return. At times, you have to give a little to get a little, for example an Universal Project Head Start program would save America money. Usually, spending more money accomplishes the contrary. But who are the people that get people thinking that the Government should be expanded, involved in all aspects of our lives, increase social programs, and ect? College professors! If College professors were really rich, they would not like the idea of people with guns taking YOUR money and handing it to someone else...but they do not know this feeling. I have a solution though...just make all college professors millionaires. That's right, for the one time cost of about 1 trillion dollars, we can start saving money in almost as few as three years, and here's how... College students are very easily brainwashed. They start believing things like Global Warming is real and massive government bureaucracies are good just because they are told so. However, what if the professor all of the suddent noticed that close to half of his one million will dissappear? He'd be saying, "Hell no, I worked hard for my one million dollars, I deserved it." Then he/she would start b***hing to their classes, "America's government is too big. It is denying us rights that every human is entitled to and it is unjustly taking people's money and wasting it inefficiently, in turn hurting more people than it helps. Suffice it to say, one must remember basic economics! Taxes incur dead weight losses, and that hurts all of us, white, asian american, latino, arab american, and african american!!!" All of the sudden their foolish students will start looking at each other, "Wow! Who would of known that giving so much money to an overbearing overlord is BAD and it hurts more people than it helps!" Students then would start rallying to "Cut The Budget", because it funds "Unjust Wars" and "Hurts Society." Eventually they would all vote in the Libertarians (and Ralph Nader would switch parties) and government spending will finally be cut. So maybe spending some money might save us all money. That or we can just borrow a bunch of money from Switzerland and then nuke it, whatever works... http://www.xanga.com/craigramblings _______________________________ In my honest opinion I think it is moronic to spend money you do not have.
April 15, 200422 yr In my honest opinion I think it is moronic to spend money you do not have. so i guess you wont be buying a house for a long long time then.
April 15, 200422 yr Author pretty much what Lcyberlina said. And I don't think it is too smart to take a second, third, fourth, fifth, and ect mortgages when we are speaking about a stable and efficient government. We can't get away with this forever, just like you cannot get away with not paying down your house.

And I don't think it is too smart to take a second, third, fourth, fifth, and ect mortgages when we are speaking about a stable and efficient government. We can't get away with this forever, just like you cannot get away with not paying down your house. but thats not what you said. you said In my honest opinion I think it is moronic to spend money you do not have. so that would mean if you dont have the liquidity to purchase something up front at that time....you are being moronic. according to your logic. same thing would apply to purchase of a new vehicle or any 'major' purchase.
April 15, 200422 yr Author "In my honest opinion I think it is moronic to spend money you do not have. " Obviously this applys to government and REAL LIFE for most instances. I do not believe the current average indebted American is a good thing.
April 15, 200422 yr Author nice to see how much of a jerk you are acting like. I did not wish to go into explaining exactly to which situations loaning out money was good or bad. I made the general statement that not oweing(dp) someone money is always prefarable to oweing(sp) someone money. Deal with it.

Deal with it. nice to see you again chaging your song. i guess i am a moron for taking out a loan to buy my truck.
April 15, 200422 yr Author You are if you can never pay down your truck and you spend 5% of your income yearly for the rest of eternity when you are a millionaire on that truck. General statement people, GENERAL. It was not meant to be specific obviously.
April 15, 200422 yr making generalizations often gets you in trouble. havnet you learned that by now?
April 15, 200422 yr Author I'm sure the debtors are screaming mad at my prejudice against them. lock me away for hate crimes oh witty one. On a more serious note Alexander Hamilton called a national debt "a blessing" because it makes it easier for a government to create a budget. However, the current debt (and most people's outrageous credit car debt) is beyond reason in my honest opinion.
April 15, 200422 yr 300 billion is chump change to a Government that has a multi-trillion dollar annual budget. It's like peeing in an ocean. But then again, you are probably onew of hte people who really thought Gore was on to something when he decried the fact that the government was spending $400 dollars on toilet seats. Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. Another one that cracks me up is the specials they show on the National nightly news, ie. "The fleecing of America" and others. They spend five minutes bemoaning the fact that some government agency spent 50K here or 300K there on some research/grant/program that didn't work. Get over it, have some perspective. Spending less on toilet seats and pointing out the 100K that got misspent isn't doing a damn thing. It is the essense of irrelevant insignificance.
April 15, 200422 yr Author Fish fillet, 7 trillion dollars is 7 trillion dollars, any way you slice it. About 300 billion dollars a year is an unbelievable amount of money. As for deficits and the GDP, even assuming that everything turns out as the Bush administration's 2004 budget says it will, in four years the gross national debt would grow to $9.4 trillion. That's larger than the nation's entire GDP for 1999 and just a trillion shy of this year's projected GDP. http://www.modbee.com/24hour/opinions/stor...p-5668032c.html Peeing in the ocean? It is more like pissing in your toilet if you ask me. It makes a huge difference. Bush's tax cut over 11 years was initally 1.35 trillion dollars. Every year we are exceeding 300 billion in debt interest. that is over 3.3 trillion dollars in eleven years...is that chump change? No, it is wasted money and a marking of another failed administration.
