Dolphins Announce 2004 Preseason Schedule

April 9, 2004

The Miami Dolphins will open their 2004 preseason slate on Saturday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Pro Player Stadium. The game will mark the first of four for the Dolphins during the ?04 preseason schedule. Miami also will take on its other intrastate foe in week three, when it travels to Tampa to battle the Buccaneers on Saturday, August 28. All four preseason games will be broadcast in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area on WFOR-TV (CBS 4) and in West Palm Beach on WTVX (Channel 34). WTVK (Channel 6) will carry the Dolphins games against the Jaguars, Redskins and Saints in the Naples/Ft. Myers areas. Both road games will be televised live, while the two home contests will air on a delayed basis unless sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff.

This will mark the second time in as many years that the Dolphins and Jaguars have squared off in the preseason, as the two teams faced one another at ALLTEL Stadium last year. The Jaguars possess one of the emerging young quarterbacks in the NFL in Byron Leftwich, a consensus all-rookie selection in 2003.

Saturday, August 21 will welcome a visit from the Washington Redskins, who are led by Head Coach Joe Gibbs as he returns to the sidelines following an 11-year hiatus. In his first stint as the Redskins? mentor (1981-92), Gibbs guided the franchise to three Super Bowl titles. Washington will also come in with newly acquired running back Clinton Portis, the former University of Miami star and the NFL?s sixth-leading rusher in 2003 with 1,591 yards, the second of two straight 1,500+-yard rushing seasons for the league?s 2002 Rookie of the Year. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. (EDT).

The Dolphins then hit the road for the first time in 2004 on Saturday, August 28 when they make the short trek to Florida?s west coast, where they will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium at 7:00 p.m. (EDT). The game, which will be carried live by WFOR and WTVX, will represent the 11th preseason contest between these teams in as many years (1994-04), and will be the 19th time overall that they have squared off in the preseason.

The Dolphins close out the preseason campaign with a contest in New Orleans against the Saints on Friday, September 3, beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT), 7:00 p.m. (CDT). The game, which will be televised live by WFOR, WTVX and WTVK will mark the third straight year and fifth time in the last six years that these teams will have met in the preseason. They also squared off at the Superdome in 2003.
