May 1, 200422 yr After learning the Legislature adjourned without considering the Marlins request for a sales tax rebate that would fill the $30 million gap remaining in the team's $367 million ballpark financing plan, team president David Samson issued this statement: "We had hoped for a positive result this Legislative session. We will now discuss with the county and city all possibilities remaining, which will enable us to complete a retractable roof facility by Opening Day 2007." sun-sentinal.com
May 1, 200422 yr My assumption is that the Marlins, city and county had to have back up plans and contingencies in place in case they did not receive the state money this session. Everyone knew it was a longshot to receive the money on the last day of the session.
May 1, 200422 yr It is inconceivable to think that $1M per year is going to hold up this project. They always have the option to go back next year for the state contribution.
May 1, 200422 yr look - $30 million is a lot of money. but, in the scope of a $370 million dollar deal, it's hard to believe that small of an amount would be a dealbreaker. i mean, $30 mill doesn't just magically appear, so if they're short that money, they're short that money. but MAN, we can't possibly come this close and not get it done, could we?
