OH, you've got a 5.25" bay free - no prob, yea slap it in there. A CD/DVD won't get too hot, and the brackets to mount in that bay should have enough adjustability that you can get the drive a fair bit of clear air all around.

If the power supply fan is stout enough, you may not need another. Just leaving the bay blank off may be enough. You can also heat up a butter knife with a propane torch and melt some vent slots into a solid plastic bay blank. Kinda stinky process best done outside to avoid setting off smoke detectors though...but it works well. The melted goop trailings trim off pretty easily with a single edge razor blade or X-acto. Yea...thanks for the advice

obviously the bay being 5.25" and the HD being 3.5" I won't be able to mount the drive to both sides...

the drive may be on a slight tilt....

I'm not sure how its gonna play out though...I may be able to tighten one side of the drive to the bay well enough to get it nice and even...

I'm putting the new hard drive on the very bottom 5.25" bay so that there will be a metal platform from the case underneath it...the bay above it will be free and right above that will be 2 CD drives

I figure I'm safe because there won't be much heat around the hard drive with the bay above it being free and directly below it lies the floppy drive

What do you think?

You can also buy an external enclosure for the internal HDD. It'll act as a external HDD, and you'll save money. External enclosures can be cheap as $25.
