June 25, 200422 yr Oh, so 3 months make you one of the elite baseball hitters right now? Please, your homerism is blinding. That is like if I decided to say Juan Pierre was the best centerfielder of all time. To say calling Thome a great hitter is homerism than your an idiot. It's not like Thome just came out of nowhere, he was a threat last year and that was on an off year but I guess Jim Thome is just starting to be a "good" ballplayer now. Would you have said that Pat Burrell was a great hitter last year through all that crap? No because short term is the most important thing. I'm shocked Crime Dog isn't making +7 figures now with those career numbers. Results right now is the most important thing. Thome has been a big hitter for the past two years and has completely unleashed this year but under your standards that's not good enough. I'd like you to point out where I said Thome wasn't a great hitter. But to to think that Thome is better than Pujols is homerism. Plain and simple. How many people EVER have done what Pujols has done his first 3 and a half years in the majors? That is counting this year big boy. Maybe Ted Williams. Maybe someone else I'm forgetting. Not Jim Thome. Not anyone we've seen in years for that matter.

Not Jim Thome. Not anyone we've seen in years for that matter. I said Thome's hitting better right now than Pujols therefore deserves to be on that list plain and simple so interpret that anyway you want but when I go looking for the best hitter, right now's the biggest factor and then the past two seasons. To go back 9 years to try to judge Thome is absurd. Thome's hitting better than Pujols in the 5 major statistical category's and you yourself made the point about the triple crown, I as sure as hell didn't. I'd take Thome over Pujols right now point blank if I wanted the better hitter right now. You can deny stats all you want but don't go calling "Thome is beating Pujols in the five major hitting stats" homerism because it's not. You can deny the numbers all you want but I wouldn't be The GM giving big money to Robbie Alomar because career numbers translate into the better hitter.
June 25, 200422 yr Well, looking at the stats, they are pretty much the same. Average I'll give to Thome, because he has up .14 on him. RBI is a whole 1 split. Pujols has more runs, and actually has more hits. Thome has more homers, but it isn't a substantial number at all. Walks are equal, Total Bases are extremely close, and Albert blows Thome away in plate discipline. Plus, he's stolen two bases! How is Thome significantly better again?

Look at my original post, Pujols and Arod were right there. In fact it was a toss up between Pujols and Helton, he got it because the thread was started for him.
June 25, 200422 yr I still don't see how Pujols is left out of the top 5 at all, but you're free to have your opinion I assume.
