Todd Helton is Da Man

Featured Replies

He has a 1.050 OPS, and yes he's at Coors, but...

he has a .983 road OPS

here's a list of players below his road OPS:

Mike Piazza

Ivan Rodriguez

Jorge Posada

Alex Rodriguez

Mike Lowell

Jim edmonds

J.D. Drew

Jason Giambi

He is simply an unbelievable player with (an overall) .455 obp, 3rd best in the majors. He'll probably end the year with the second best.

So when all is said and done, is Helton the third best hitter in the majors behind Man Ram and Barry Bonds? Is Guerrero just a bit ahead?

My Top 5 Hitters in Baseball:

1. Bonds

2. Pujols

3. Helton

4. Guerrero

5. Ramirez

Helton is the man, and he's consistent, but I think that I would like to have Guerrero over him.

The funny thing about my list is, that as good as Vlad, Manny, and Helton are, they are all a step below Bonds and Pujols IMO.

I think Bonds and Pujols are just so much better than everybody else at the plate. They never get cheated, are considered "slumping" if they are hitting below about .310, don't strike out all that much, and both always seem to hit the ball hard.

Bonds and Pujols are probably the 2 best pure hitters that I've seen in my over a decade of watching baseball.

Pujols

Vlad

Bonds

Helton

Manny

Bonds-doesn't play too many games, but the bat is till 30% better than anyone around

Pujols - underperforming this year, but I think anyone would take pujols for helton straight up

Manny-He has one of the best all time OBP, Slug and (surprise) OPS and every year will slug .600 with a .400 something obp

Helton- his edge in obp makes him better than Guerrero

-Vlad- still a great hitter

It still never ceases to amaze me how Vlad swings so freely and yet strikes out so little. It's just incredible.

ARod is up there, but I think Helton is a better pure hitter.

A lot of these guys bring different things to the table, so it's hard to rank them, but I would have:

Bonds

Pujols

Vlad

Helton

Manny

Really, A-Rod could be anywhere on that list as well.

Helton's pretty good too

And Pujols hasn't been too shabby once he settled on one position

Bonds isn't as good as he used to be he's still alright

Manny has put in more effort this year, he's getting better

ARod has always been glove-tastic

Pitcher's envy Vlad's arm and he's got great range

In any order, Helton, Bonds, Vlad, Thome Manny.

Arod and Pujols are right there though.

I personally think Pujols has to be in any top 5, but that's me

It was either Helton or Pujols that wasn't going to make it but I think Thome's numbers this year speak for themselves and why he should be on the list. Someone had to go to make room. Pujols has plenty of time to make the list but I'm not going on how much better he's going to get.

I'd think being a Triple Crown threat nearly every season meant something

Fine let's go to the numbers

Thome Vs Pujols

Hr: Thome

OBP: Thome

AVG: Thome

Slugging Thome

and finally RBI's: Jim Thome

I thought stats meant something dood...

Let's do seasonal averages shall we

You're right man, Thome beats Pujols in average (because .286 is higher than .330), RBIs (113 to 129), Ks (164 is less than 74), Doubles (of course, everyone knows 31 is higher than 47), Slugging (.574 vs a paltry .613), OPS (.986 vs 1.024, but over 1 is bad!), Hits (Getting over 200 sucks) and runs. In fact, they are essentially even in HR and OBP, and the ONLY thing Thome wins in is walks.

We're going by seasonal averages to decide who's the best hitter now?

Answer me this, are pitchers worried about what a guy was going last year or two years ago or how he's hitting now. Yeah, thought so.

You yourself even said because he's a triple crowd threat that means he should be on the list. Quick question, who's leading right now(the stat that counts when it comes to hitting, how a person's doing right now) in AVG, HR, and RBI's, the three triple crown category's.

If you said Thome, you're right give yourself a pat on the back.

Fact of the matter is Thome's the better hitter this season. Pujols is supposed to be getting better and Thome's hitting better than him. That deserves a top 5 mention.

Oh, so 3 months make you one of the elite baseball hitters right now? Please, your homerism is blinding. That is like if I decided to say Juan Pierre was the best centerfielder of all time.

To say calling Thome a great hitter is homerism than your an idiot. It's not like Thome just came out of nowhere, he was a threat last year and that was on an off year but I guess Jim Thome is just starting to be a "good" ballplayer now.

Would you have said that Pat Burrell was a great hitter last year through all that crap? No because short term is the most important thing. I'm shocked Crime Dog isn't making +7 figures now with those career numbers. Results right now is the most important thing.

Thome has been a big hitter for the past two years and has completely unleashed this year but under your standards that's not good enough.
