Howard Stern returns to SoFla's airwaves

Featured Replies

It took Viacom almost what 3 months to decided that they wanted to air Howard Stern on their South Florida Rock Station WPBZ "Buzz 103.1" based out of West Palm Beach.

Stern previously aired on Clear Channel owned WBGG "Big 105.9" based out the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area.

WPBZ's morning show was made aware that they would no longer be on the air and they leaked the news to the public. Looks like he will launch tomorrow morning.

What a tease this is for us in Miami, if its even true. I was finally able to get 103.1 on my radio, only to find out its Sun 103.1 from the Keys. Is there any way to get Buzz 103.1 down here?

Taking this development a step further, it wouldn't be a stretch to see Stern sign on with another station in the near future out of south Miami/Keys. That way he could circumvent non-competes by demostrating that he's in two distinctly different markets and saturate all of SoFla.

Stern has no non-compete because he is a syndicated show. As for him getting a South Miami/Keys affiliate...Sun 103.1 and WAIL 99 are both Clear Channel stations.

US1 Radio (WWSU 104.1 FM) doesn't reach any farther north than Key Largo.

I used to live in the Keys and radio there is a nightmare unless it's from either Plantation Key, Big Pine Key, Marathon, or Key West. Miami and Fort Myers rarely get in due to Castro.

Howard's best chance is to stop being a baby and let an AM station carry him. WQAM's signal doesn't intrude on his Palm Beach station (owned by his syndicator Viacom) and Fort Myers station (owned by Beasley-WQAM) too much and WQAM already has Neil Rogers and is looking for a "killer" morning show.

Reed was talking with Stern's people, but his phobia of AM radio has kept it from happening. It's the only place he can go if he wants to be on the air in Miami right now.
