Beckett to go July 6?: On Wednesday, Josh Beckett will test the pulled muscle to his back in a bullpen pitching session. If everything goes smoothly, McKeon hasn't ruled out starting Beckett on Tuesday, July 6, at home against the Pirates.

Β

Beckett is eligible to come off the DL on Saturday; however, left-hander Dontrelle Willis is scheduled to throw then with A.J. Burnett slotted for the Fourth of July.

Β

"It looks like he might be able to do it," McKeon said of Beckett coming off the DL to face the Pirates.

Β

Beckett would rejoin the rotation in the slot Michael Tejera is filling.

Β

Hopefully his bullpen session goes well.

Do we really need to make him start before the all star break or should we hold him off until we come back? Couldnt we just give Tejera or Bump a start instead of risking anything more serious happing?

I can't wait, honestly this rotation with Beckett in it is devastating

i think those dates are wrong....AJ should be starting the 5th of July.

Β

that being said, why not get Josh back? a win is a win is a win. there's only so long we can baby this guy. if he's ready to play, we gotta get him in there.

when beckett comes off the DL and in the rotation, what will be the order of the rotation?

i think isnt willis 3rd and burnett 4th? yeah, must of been a mix up :whistle

If the guy's ready to pitch, toss him out there. I'm slowly getting sick of us babying him, the only way he's going to get tougher is if he pitches through a little pain. Even if he's not 100% maybe his presence simply pushes the guys to step it up; we need anything at this point...we're struggling.

i think they should wait until after the all star break so he could be fresh and ready to finish off the season

If he says he's ready, let him pitch. He's much more sober now about his physical condition and his future.

Β

90 pitch count or six innings, whichever comes first.

This will be a tune-up.

It could be ideal if we could work the rotation to look something like

Β

Pavano

Willis

Penny

The AJ

Beckett

Β

To avoid long losing streaks and to have Pavano or The AJ in every series. Willis being inconsistent and Josh not being 100% yet make them liabilities to not win everytime out, so sandwiched in between more consistent starters if the offense doesn't show for them and they don't do as well, the others are there to pick up the slack.

Β

Plus, once Josh gets back to form, everyonce in a while some poor unlucky team is going to have to face Penny-AJ-Beckett back to back to back. SWEEP.
