July 16, 200421 yr The Marlins wouldnt pay all of that 18.5 contract half of that money is already in Delgados pocket, which leaves about 8m the Jays take half of that we're paying 4m for him
July 16, 200421 yr I wouldn't want delgado. Unless we are planning on upping our salary by about $15-20 mil, we wouldn't be able to sign delgado, pavano, and penny.

Unless we are planning on upping our salary by about $15-20 mil, we wouldn't be able to sign delgado, pavano, and penny. 460623[/snapback] Toranto will take most of the remaining contract which would end up leaving 4 or 5 mil, but they want alot in return for Delgado, i think thell be willing to take a huge sum of the contract for the right prospects.
July 16, 200421 yr Delgado is a free agent next year. We wouldn't be able to re-sign him and we would be without a good second baseman.
July 16, 200421 yr TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays plan to ask Carlos Delgado to waive his no-trade clause, but the slugger's agent says he isn't going anywhere. Delgado, eligible for free agency this fall, earns $18.5 million this season in the final year of a four-year, $64 million deal. "I'm going to him ask if he wants to, but he has the right to decide whether he wants to or he doesn't," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said Friday. Ricciardi said the team will probably have a payroll of $50 million next season, the same as this season. He would like to use the money Delgado makes on a number of players. "I think Carlos understands it," Ricciardi said. "He's a very, very bright guy. Bringing him back at $18.5 million dollars is something that's not going to happen. That doesn't mean we don't want to bring him back." Ricciardi declined to say when he would speak to Delgado. "Carlos isn't going anywhere, and I don't know how to put it any more plainly than that," said Delgado's agent, David Sloane. "This is not a story that we have created. This is a story that Mr. Ricciardi has made." Asked if Ricciardi is setting the stage to push Delgado out, Sloane said: "I have not received so much as a phone call from the GM. You'd have to ask him what his intentions are. I think it's fairly obvious." Sloane said the Blue Jays have been unhappy with Delgado's contract for years. "This is something that we've had to deal with. Practically since the inked dried on this contract they did a 180," he said. "I don't want to say anything that is going to inflame the situation further. I would prefer that the whole thing just go away because as far as I'm concerned it's unfair." Delgado was second in AL MVP voting last year after hitting .302 with 42 homers and a major league-leading 145 RBI. He entered Friday night's game against Texas batting .223 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI. Delgado was activated from the disabled list on July 6 after missing 33 games with a strained rib cage. He is the franchise leader in home runs and RBI. The Blue Jays expected to contend for a playoff spot this season, but they've struggled with injuries and an unproductive offense and bullpen. They entered Friday night's game 10 games below .500, at 39-49. espn.com
