July 15, 200421 yr The Marlins are believed to have shown interest in acquiring slugger Carlos Delgado of the Blue Jays, although his price may be too high. Without noting specific names, Beinfest did say Marlins front-line players aren't being shopped. The team isn't looking to deal All-Star right-hander Carl Pavano, a free agent after the season. "Teams recognize we're 1 1/2 games out of first," Beinfest said. "I think generally in baseball, if you're in a race, you generally aren't talking about front-line guys." link to whole article
July 15, 200421 yr makes perfect sense to me....i guess everyone who was saying we should trade Penny or Pavano for a bat will be disappointed tho....
July 15, 200421 yr What does delgado's contract look like? 459763[/snapback] Last year of his contract, but he's making $18.5 million this year. In my opinion, there is absolutely zero chance that we trade for Delgado.

July 16, 200421 yr first off we dont need carlos delgado because we already have a decent first basemen second of all hes having a horriable year

Delgado - .223 avg 10hr 36rbi 10doubles Choi - .275 14hr 35rbi 13doubles If we do get Delgado i think it would be an upgrade to this team, but lets be realistic we (Marlins) will never land him.

What's the reason for this again?
July 16, 200421 yr Yeah, I dont want Delgado....Let's focus our efforts on Kendall and/or Lawton...Those two would be fine for me.

July 16, 200421 yr The only way this deal makes any sense is that Delgado comes for a mid-level prospect, and Choi is traded for some serious 'pen help. Delgado is most likely a rental, Conine plays first next year, Stokes in 2006. Those are a lot of ifs, but we do have a reasonable short and long term solution.
July 16, 200421 yr can Delgado play anything besides 1b? (i doubt it, but thats the only way i see this workin)
July 16, 200421 yr and i guarantee choi will never put up the seasons that delgado has either. i'd take delgado over choi every day of the week. though i definitely don't see it happening. though i want it to happen. ;0

July 16, 200421 yr Author I would trade Choi for Delgado if blue jays are willing to take up most of the salary
