August 23, 200421 yr ...then it'll freakin rock! I'm living in LA now, so I was lucky enough to go to all 3 Dodgers/Marlins game, plus 1 of the games in SD (the one we won on Sat. night). A buddy of mine works for the team. Anyway, PETCO is a great stadium. The Marlins should definitely take notes... The sandstone brick color is really nice...it works for a beach city team. I really liked the fact that the hallways are held up by pillers, meaning that there's no wall separating the seats from the concessions. So you could essentially watch the game while you wait for food. It also allows for a nice air flow, which would be great in Miami. Also, because of this, PETCO allows for standing room only behind practically EVERY seating section. So you can buy a $5 park pass, allowing anyone to come in and wander around the stadium, then they can just stand in any section and watch the game. This also gives people access to the "beach" area in the back, with sand and a giant hill anyone can sit on and watch the game from a big screen. They also have "the Park at the Park" which is a baseball diamond kids can play on while the game is actually going on. It doesn't take up seat room or anything, it's technically behind the seats so it doesn't interfere and it allows for the park to be filled with people. PETCO didn't really have any signature food item. Apparently the old stadium had good mexican (San Diego is about 5 miles from Mexico), but this one really doesn't have much. They might have a "sand"which or something like that. I also like how this Park Pass gives you access to pretty much any level you want access too. I was also at Dodger Stadium this week, and you can only enter the level you're sitting on. So if you're in the outfield there's a specific outfield enterance. If you're on the upper deck, you can only get there. Great baseball stadium, but it's not so fan-friendly. But PETCO really is. It's also beautifully done on the outside. Lots of palm trees, a waterfall step structure which is really nice. The old Marlins Stadium drawings looked great too, so hopefully we'll still keep it like that or make it better. The info they're released so far sounds great. Can't wait to see the HOK plans.

I've been out of Miami for almost a year now...we didn't have any good fish tacos did we? At Sandbar in the Grove maybe? That's all I can think of. But I'll be back for the UM/FSU game and the Cubs/Marlins games, so I'll keep my eyes open. But I saw no fish tacos in SD.
August 23, 200421 yr Author Hmmm...you may be right. Rubio's has some of the best fish tacos out here, and I did hear someone saying that Rubios was at the stadium, but I guess it was on the upper levels. I didn't see it and I didn't see anyone eating them. Damn, wish I would've known.

August 23, 200421 yr Author Yeah, I read that too before I went, which is why I was surprised when I didn't see that stuff, but I stayed on the lower levels, so it may have been on the upper concourse, although that's kinda strange since the more expensive seats (the lower ones) only had a blackened chicken sandwhich as the most exotic menu item. They did have BBQ in the back near the beach area. Oh well, I'll have to make another visit just to find out. Either way, the stadium is great. I hope ours is like it or better.
August 24, 200421 yr I hope the new park has kosher food. That one afternoon at Citizens Bank was awful. 20 concession stands and all they had were a bag of peanuts.
